The Young Rogue

Haenir

Dalayan Master
I've returned to SoD and decided to re-roll a Rogue. I remember last time I played I leveled too fast and was underpowered at 65. So this time I'm going to try to take my time, hit adepts, get aa's before 65, etc. assuming I can find people to meatshield for me.

Any suggestions on lower level content and gear that I should make sure not to miss? I'm currently lvl 12 (aiming at them adepts).

I am actually in the process of making a guide for people just like you! I don't know the last time you played but there are a number of things that I think just can't be missed. For one, Cesspits. Great 9-24ish zone that you cant enter after lvl 29. It drops a few pieces of pretty solid gear for the level and has a lot of quest exp that can be milked from it and a 1hs or 1hb that have pretty good stats once leveled. Also some of the lower level areas have mobs that have "super special, super rare" gear. The ones I know of are a mask that is great for melees that drops on Fearstone TR as a VERY rare drop off of the Frilak (sp?) Master (right in front of the throne, he has a PH for the MQ). It has a clicky buff that gives you a lifetap proc and pretty solid stats once its leveled. I believe the Kobold King in the Warrens also drops a bracer that is just all around good for everyone. In BB the Gnoll Visionary drops a great caster item and Lord Jeerrok (sp for sure) drops a 1hs that gets pretty good. Like I said those are all fairly rare drops so you might be looking for awhile.

For some perspective, my 65 paladin who is working on tomes uses the fearstone mask click almost always (unless I'm grouped with a wizard for blades)

Good information, thanks. Do you know of any piercing weapons among these special drops?

Only other suggestion I have is at and after level 55, look for map groups. There are a lot of people who don't need the loots, they are looking for QPs. You could scoop up those loots and get great experience at the same time.

Also, LEVEL up all your weapon skills every level you achieve! 1hb, 1hs and piercing.

-EDIT-
Sorry one more. If you box or want to, box a mage. You'll spoil the crap out of your rogue if you play your mage/rogue combo right.

Summoned food, throwing knives, arrows, daggers, bandages and more.

Pet tank....

so many benefits.

Make 52,ignore the lower level adepts,xp-locking for them is a waste of time and xp.
At 52 switch to AAs until you got http://wiki.shardsofdalaya.com/index.php/Ring_of_Supreme_Vengeance.
Lord Ragarati is killed quite frequently on weekends,so shouldnt take too long.
After that make 55,make more (basic) AAs,at more than 49 AAs you get a xp penalty until you reach 65 but it is
not very severe, look if you can get in CMal-groups to scoop up the rots and class gear. Also the 55/57 adepts have
nice gear which will even last a while at 65.

Be warned if you are unwilling to box you will have a very hard time at lower levels with the (now) low population.
I am really sorry to say,but there is only one class you want to box as you need a healer with a melee and ports (mostly
for doing main quest or you run around SoD for a week or 2),I let you guess which class can heal and port. :)

Dont go anon or you wont show up on a "/w all 52 to 57" when I play my 55 box. :)

Anything requiring Runneye is sketchy, because of the way the zone is coded. If you are above level X, you just get death touched in you enter certain areas/ engage certain mobs.

If you can find people to help you the vah newbie weapons turn out pretty good (especially the bard one) but as mentioned it's hard to get high level help for them since I believe past 52 or 53 you get DT'd going near the events for those quests.

Personally if you're new there's two things you could do:

- Plow to 65, hope to get into a guild that'll help you out (STOP AT 52 FOR RAGARATI AND THE RING LINKED EARLIER. YOU WILL BE VERY SAD LATER IF YOU DON'T)
- Stay 55, get some adept gear/AAs to make your life easier. There's a decent amount of hobby 55s so you might be able to get a group with them once in a while plus there's a decent amount of places to AA around that level.

And honestly even if you dump the box at 65 you'll be glad you leveled it along the way. Druid is the lazy generic choice due to ports and heals. Soloing as a rogue isn't exactly the most fun in the world.

For 1hp, I would try to get sandjaws dagger. It levels up to about the same ratio as one of the best piercers you can buy and it has a proc, also do the Vah starting quest for rogues the dagger and gear you'd get. If you arent a kitty you will have to collect some fish first but the quests are pretty good and the zone is really nice to level in. I went back at 65 with my warrior to get the 2hs they get from the quests and it wasn't all that painful (though if you could do it at the correct level I would suggest it). I just made a 22 paladin to rez hop me. Took a couple of hours all together.

Also, the Very Sharp Leaf is real cheap like 400-700p on average and has +backstab on it. It vendors for like 250p and the mob that drops it isn't that hard so don't let someone cheat you.

I've seen people trying to sell that for 3500 and 4k. lol

Meh, boxing.. if I wanted to control more than one character I'd play a game designed with that in mind.

What's your 55's name, so's I can keep an eye out?

What about the quest for http://wiki.shardsofdalaya.com/index.php/Heartbane_Rapier? Anyone done that one and recommend it?

My 55s are Melhdur/Melport/Slavia.Also look out for Utra,52 Rogue ,friend of mine.We like to help out new players (grouping with them,
geetting them gear along with that, dont expect straight gifts or donations :) ).

Not so sure about the quest,a 28/18 weapon isnt that great even at 52 or 55,with a little help (and some patience) you can get
(preferably a pristine) http://wiki.shardsofdalaya.com/index.php/Ruby_Hilted_Longsword which will even last a while at 65.
Also the 55/57 adepts drop semi-nice weapons.
As for the mentioned Very Sharp Leaf, place an alt with cash at Field Supplier Bur (at end of village) in Overgrowth, people sell
their OG loot there frequently. Also it isnt a bad idea to check the NPC vendor at the inn in Athica occasionally for gear.
Do NOT buy gear from listsold, stuff there is mostly overpriced, save your cash for charms.
Oh,make getting http://wiki.shardsofdalaya.com/index.php/Seed_of_Health your absolute priority once you hit 45 even if that
means begging in ooc for someone doing (r1)bounties let you tag along.

As for boxing, just level a Druid, only put gear on him you find yourself, what you want is damageshield, regen and heals. With that
you can do Lasanth from 45+ on,1st zome with real cash dropping mobs, even with no gear to speak of you should be able to get
~200 to 300p an hour there.
At lower levels you can make some cash with drake hides (drakes in GSM outside Kaladim,~level25) and exquisite silk from
Shadeweb spiders in Heartlands(around level 30 to 35),both sell to players for 5 to 10p each not stack.
If you dont mind farming greenies (I do :) ),Orcs in Lesser Faydark may be worth a try, they are around level 12,drop *plat*
and items which sell for a few plat (and a "Withered Scroll of the Flameseer" for your Druid).
With the Druid do the main quest as far as you can, mega xp for *both* chars and you only need to do the porting/running around
*once*.Along with that do the Newport ring quest, zones for both quests overlap and you hit 2 birds with one stone.

Take this all with a grain of salt from a player who thinks the real game doesnt start before 51,on the other hand I spend as much
time with my 55s as with my 65s.
There may be some newbie/lowbie quests worth doing I am not aware off because they were implemented long after I leveled
my last alt.
