The Probe, North Newport Rogue Guild, and You

Because my guildies have been lazy, the task to skill up Arraz's lockpick fell to me. Upon obtaining 250 lockpick, I searched his bank to try and find the Probe, the newbie item that gives you +5 lockpick. We planned on doing some difficult maps, and it's nice to have just to make sure you don't fail when picking the lock and getting another wave of phantom striking mobs.

With that said, I couldn't find it in his bank so I journeyed to the North Newport Rogue guild to buy one. In my days of botting Droogie in Empire, I accidently destroyed the probe and bought another one from Kah the Blade for a few gold. Now, the probe is not there. Upon talking to Thinkmeats, Elulu, and Zaela, none of them know if it was removed intentionally or not, so I want to make sure I'm not just looking in the wrong place, or it has been removed from the merchant for a reason.

I had this same trouble with my rogue. Turns out, the probe is now the final reward for completing the lock picking mini-quests given to you by Riki Redhands. Do the quests, get the probe.

Was like that before when probe was still being sold. IIRC this is a very recent change (6 weeks?).

And if you have already completed the quest and lost the probe due to a mandatory restore of your character? What do you do? :psyduck:
 
Been longer then 6 weeks I think... seems like it was several (3 or 4 months) ago when I decided to finish out my lock picking skill, and it was purely by accident that I bothered to finish up the noobie quests... I had already resolved to not ever getting the probe, thinking it had been removed from the game, since it was no longer for sale by the rogue merchant.

And if you had it from the quest and lost it in a character restore, you cry to a GM and hope they take pity on you.
 
If your out of luck bummer, but at least 5 skill isnt a make or break deal. Nothing needs the extra 5 to be opened afaik.
 
I had the same problem on mine, I took the admittedly irritating route and started a new rogue, skilled up Pick Lock enough to open the final door, then gave my rogue the probe. Wasted a good hour but at least I've got the damn thing now. I would like to see it for sale on Kah though :/
 
Probe was never a buyable item, it was something I added specifically for the lockpicking quests.
 
I think this rumor started from people selling their quest rewards to the merchant and them being repicked up.
 
It was listed on the wiki that it was buyable from the rogue vendor in Newport... I'm betting thats where we all got the idea that it was available for "sale" (I know I did). I've since fixed the wiki.
