The Forgotten City Reborn

Today the Bearers of Truth met with the Prophet to discuss what we had learned. He suggested a different interpretation of "putting the wounded memories to rest", that is, to rebuild and repopulate the land. He then suggested that we investigate the ruined city of Felwithe to see why the evil had not taken hold there.

We entered the city and found little but old bones until the city itself seemed to grow aware of so many within her walls and resent us. The bones of the dead rose to battle us and some fell, sore wounded. The Bearers fought on, reaching the northern half of the city and the center of the force opposing us.

It was then we began to hear the force speak to us, a voice that later named itself Athica. Not a living intelligence but rather a summoned or magical force, old magic laid down by the High Elves long ago. When the High Elves fled the city in fear during the war Athica was awoken by the old guardians, the ancient spirits of the elvish ancestors, and fought off the Mists. It had little understanding of death though and when, in years later, the decendants of the High Elves returned it did not know them and drove them away.

When we understood this we spoke to Athica and explained about death and how the decendants of her "High Ones" were still here in Dalaya, waiting to return. Finally she accepted and understood. She agreed to allow both the decendants of the High Elves and any they called friend to return to the city and rebuild.

The Bearers of Truth have elected one of their number, Jayelle Nephilim, to lead the rebuilding effort.

Ykarri says, 'Thizik reached the Inner city of Nagthilian and spoke to Baldakos!'
The Prophet says, 'But I have spent some time in seclusion, tending to the visions. I need you to explain.'
The Prophet says, 'As much I did know.'
The Prophet says, 'Continue.'
Szriko says, 'Thizik Found Baldakos in Nagthilian.. He said to search for the Wounded Memories and put them to rest.'
Szriko says, 'We have tried several things, but nothing has Worked.'
Ykarri says, 'But, we are unable to figure out what memories he means. There are a good deal of pained spirits in the world'
Ykarri says, 'It is difficult to inspect each possibility'
Desouza says, 'It's difficult to believe the betrayer.'
The Prophet says, 'Well, the first thing that must be considered is that he was simply lying, or throwing you a smoke screen. There are no certainities with a betrayer.'
Desouza grins at the response.
Szriko says, 'Yes, that is true. Otherwise, we have no leads.'
Ykarri says, 'While true, we have nothing better to go on'
The Prophet says, 'Regardless, there may have been some truth to his lies, even if lies they were. What do you believe he would mean by wounded memories?'
Gamba says, 'Spirits. Restless ghosts.'
Temellin says, 'Spirits that could never quite pass on?'
The Prophet says, 'Why do you draw this conclusion?'
Szriko says, 'Memories that are Either Perserved, or beings that were around and near the places at the time of the Mist's Formation.'
Gamba says, 'A spirit is a shade, a memory of the one who has passed on. '
Sstecik says, 'There are also possibly memories within the land, we know that the land groans with pain.'
Gamba says, 'And we are well versed in "laying to rest" such undead.'
Gamba says, 'It seemed a logical choice to try at least.'
The Prophet says, 'Perhaps, metophorically speaking, but there is more to it than this. Wounded memories are the echoes of the past that prevent us from moving on into the future, old stones blocking new ways.'
The Prophet says, 'This can be the walking dead, but they are not the essence of it. Take this land for example.'
The_Prophet gestures around him.
Temellin looks around.
The Prophet says, 'Do you know what it was called long before it became known as the Badlands?'
Sstecik says, 'Could this also mean our own living memories?'
Temellin nods at The Prophet.
Szriko says, 'I do not, PRophet.'
Desouza glances down at the ground briefly, before returning his look towards the Prophet.
Desouza says, 'Go ahead, Prophet. You have an ignorant audience.'
The Prophet says, 'This was once known as the Emerald Plains, for the bountiful harvest they yielded, as well as their forgiving nature. None of that forgiving nature remains now, but still, there is a certain hope to the place. Look at this village, for one. During the Return, there was nothing but ruins here.'
The Prophet says, 'Yet, slowly, people have begun to rebuild here in a manner quite unlike the other damaged lands.'
The Prophet says, 'The Badlands are slowly being reclaimed by people who remember what they once were.'
Desouza says, 'You know as well as we that it's rotting again.'
The_Prophet simply smiles lightly at Desouza.
Sstecik says, 'Say not 'again' but still'
Szriko says, 'That can be taken as a sign to destroy those that remember it's past..'
The Prophet says, 'Now that I have said that, let me provide the counterpoint, which Desouza alleged to.'
Temellin says, 'It may belong to them in the day but when the Corrupted Spectres come out they lose control'
Gamba says, 'Would laying the wounded memories to rest mean repopulating the land, taking back the cities from the corruption?'
The Prophet says, 'There are plenty of memories, memories of more recent time, of this land's damage and corruption.'
The Prophet says, 'Ah! I see I have a gifted student here.'
The Prophet says, 'I was going to get to that eventually, but yes, that would be the gist of my point.'
Desouza says, 'He's alluding to the fact that these lands in their current state, is a sore.'
The Prophet says, 'To erase a bad memory, you have to build something new to replace it.'
Desouza snickers to himself, not hiding it well.
Gamba says, 'Then Baldekos truely gave us little, rather than a clue as to how to progress he merely restated our goal for us.'
Artus says, 'What could be built that would erase the corruption?'
The Prophet says, 'That, incidentally, is why the corruption is its weakest in this part of the badlands. I expect it will fade in time.'
Desouza says, 'Hardly. Baldakos tried to feed you to his mist.'
Szriko says, 'We need to replace all the old with New Good memories, then. That is undoable in places like Nagthilian and Kelethin, until we destroy the Mist.'
The Prophet says, 'Perhaps, or perhaps not.'
The Prophet says, 'Assuming what he says is simply not a lie, he might be speaking of something specific that must be built, or replaced, for Kelethin to be cleared of the mist.'
Desouza says, 'A large assumption.'
The Prophet says, 'Naturally.'
Gamba says, 'I assume it would have to be something Kelethin lost in the attack.'
Temellin says, 'Like its population?'
Szriko says, 'It is obvious, The elves need to stop being Lazy and go back to their own City.'
The Prophet says, 'Or perhaps something that made it vulnerable because it was lost at an earlier time?'
Sstecik says, 'Aside from its population'
Desouza rolls his eyes at Szriko.
Gamba says, 'Yes, I thought merely the inhabitants was too easy an answer.'
The_Prophet smiles lightly.
The Prophet says, 'I believe it would be hard for Kelethin to be resettled before the mist is parted with.'
The Prophet says, 'But here is a thought for you to consider.'
Ayca says, 'Besides thier population, Kelethin has lost the faith people once had in its city, I believe this happened before the Mist was there...'
The Prophet says, 'Felwithe, unlike Kelethin, was *never* resettled after the Return. It was considered a place of ill omen, a haunted town, and those few who moved back in there soon
Szriko says, 'Their own Fear.'
The Prophet says, 'And yet, for all its desolation and abandonment, it has never been touched by the mist, nor the Mass.'
The Prophet says, 'Why?'
Ayca says, 'Spirits?...'
Temellin says, 'There is something they fear in it possibly?'
Gamba says, 'Yes... a good question.'
Szriko says, 'Because it is still remembered by the Elves.'
You say, 'to overcome fear and restore faith, one needs a strong leader'
Szriko says, 'They just don't have the courage to take it back.'
Desouza says, 'The population is a requirement.'
Sstecik says, 'Kelethin is also still remembered'
Gamba says, 'The city made them sleep uneasily... hmm. Wounded memories.'
Desouza says, 'I'm of the opinion that it's due to Baldakos' desperation. The weapon has to be used sparingly due to its nature. It's growing weaker per use, and to waste it on an abandoned relic of the past would simply be a waste.'
Gamba says, 'Do you know what caused this unease, Prophet, or who might know if you do not?'
The Prophet says, 'I do not. But perhaps it might be worth inquiring into?'
Szriko says, 'It is natural to feel unease in a place once inhabitated in the past.'
Gamba says, 'True Szriko. But people usually get over it and repopulate. Even here, they have done so.'
Szriko says, 'Noone tried, past the initial group, or so it seems.'
Ramgan says, 'Perhaps there is a difference in the way the two cities were abandoned.'
Artus says, 'Where should we begin our inquiry, Prophet?'
The Prophet says, 'There would be nothing to prevent you from traveling to Felwithe and examining for yourselves. As far as I know, noone has ever taken the time to stay there any more than a short while.'
The Prophet says, 'That, is for you to choose.'
Szriko says, 'I once stayed there for a Day.'
Gamba laughs.
Gamba says, 'There are few places Szriko has not been.'
The Prophet says, 'We shall see if this is simply another dead end.'
Desouza snickers at that comment.
The Prophet says, 'Regardless, it may be an interesting search.'
Szriko smacks Gamba.
The Prophet says, 'I bid you good quest, Bearers. We shall speak again.'
Szriko says, 'That is true, Prophet. Maybe now that we know what to search for we can see something.'
Sstecik says, 'Interesting or not, we will learn something there, even if it is that there is nothing there to learn.'
Zyrex says, 'So who would like a portal to Greater faydark =P'
Gamba says, 'Thank you for your words, Prophet.'
Desouza says, 'See you there, Bearers.'

The still of the city suddenly feels... hostile. Like the very walls hate you, hate you and want you to leave, hate you for disturbing them.
Ykarri tells the group, 'I'm at the pally guild'

The voice seems to be mentally focusing on Rahyr. It suddenly howls with outrage, 'IMPOSTER! WHY HAVE YOU BROUGHT AN IMPOSTER?!'
Szriko shouts, 'He is not an Imposter.'
Szriko shouts, 'He is of the same blood as the High Ones.'
Rahyr shouts, 'I am not an imposter! I am a High Elf! I am different from those who have left you, but I am of their blood'

Artus shouts, 'His forbearers helped build this city.'
Szriko shouts, 'This is one of those cheap Reproductions.'
Desouza shouts, 'Do you believe that the people you sought to protect would be so weak as to go extinct?'
Ayca shouts, 'The ones you knew are no more!'
Temellin says, 'shout out your name Rehyr and state that you are a high one'
Rahyr shouts, 'If you think that I am an imposter, then there are no High Ones left anywhere. For I am as all my kind'
Gamba shouts, 'Athica, you said you did not know their faces or names any more. Are you sure this one is not one of your High Ones?'
The voice seems to be barely containing its rage now. The lake is churning, 'WHY DO YOU KEEP SAYING THEY ARE NO MORE? WHY DO YOU KEEP USING THESE LIES?'
Maros says, 'Parents, Grandparents...perhaps it is more likely to remeber a family name'
Ayca shouts, 'They are not lies!!! We Bear the Truth!'
Szriko shouts, 'They are unlike you, Athica.'
Demmil shouts, 'We are the bearers of truth! We do not lie!'
Artus shouts, 'The Mist has slain many old High Ones... and forced the rest into hiding.'
Szriko shouts, 'We are all Mortals.'

Rahyr shouts, 'Because they are the truth Heart. I am of those who you once loved, but I am the closest you can ever get to the High Ones'
Szriko shouts, 'Mortals only exist for a short time, compared to you.'
Ramgan shouts, 'Mortals die, Athica. They can only live so long, but their existences and memories are carried on by their children. You may live forever, but we may not.'
Rahyr shouts, 'You Heart, you can live forever, but we cannot'
Desouza shouts, 'They do exist, these children speak without thinking. The High Ones continue to exist to this day, but have settled elsewhere.'
The voice seems only a little calmed down, 'SLAIN. DEATH. YOU USE THESE WORDS BUT I DO NOT KNOW THEM. WHAT ARE THEY?'
Ramgan shouts, 'Faces and names may change, but that they are High Ones does not.'
Rahyr shouts, 'they mean that they are no longer here. They do not exist. Those you love are gone'
Szriko shouts, 'It is like Sleep, but permanent.'
Demmil shouts, 'A lack of existance. Those who were once are no more. They are destroyed.'
Ayca shouts, 'Their Souls are no more... They no longer walk among us'
Faldeney steps forward and prick the finger of Rahyr and a drop of blood falls to the ground.
The voice seems more puzzled if anything, 'SLEEP? SOULS?'
Rahyr shouts, 'Gone, as though they had never existed at all. Their children are all that remains of them'
Maros says, 'How can it kill yet not understand death...'
Rahyr says, 'I do not think it even understands that it kills'
Rahyr says, 'It just seeks to drive people out'
The voice now seems confused, 'BUT... HOW CAN THIS BE? WHY WOULD SUCH A THING BE CREATED?
Temellin dies.
Maros says, 'It must see the effects it has on those it drives out'
Ramgan shouts, 'Because your creation will create.'
Gamba says, 'Yes, it is not an intelligence as we know it. More like a summoned creature.'
Artus shouts, 'To bring meaning to Existence.'
Ramgan shouts, 'And, through this cycle, you live on.'
Rahyr shouts, 'We have no control over it. But as we live, as we survive and exist, we can change things, fix things, or hurt things'
Szriko shouts, 'You have Slain people here, Today. You understand what Slain is, When you slay people, they are usually gone, Forever.'
Xandion shouts, 'To make room for more creations.'
Ayca shouts, 'Go the the southern part of the city and see the Corpses of those you have slain...'
The voice seems to shrug again, 'I DREW YOUR MEANING OF THE WORD. IT IS A SIMPLE WAY OF REMOVING THEM, BUT I DO NOT LIKE USING IT.' it seems puzzled by this, 'WHY IS THAT?'
Rahyr shouts, 'because it is what happened to your High Ones'
Dundrey shouts, 'the souls of the high ones are not compltely gone, but live on in their decendants, the people you label as imposters'
