Techniques for making money

I've recently levelled my beastlord up to where he can reliably kill single hill giants, and I have to say, it's a HUGE jump in my ability to make money over what I could do before. I've tried selling tradeskill components on the market for 39 levels, and other than the occasional chump change, there's really not much dough to be made for lowbies that I could find.

Or is there? I'm wondering if anyone knows good places and techniques for getting good amounts of cash. I know about the hill giants (I'm working Goblin Skull Mountains atm, haven't tried Obsidian Shard yet), but what's good after they start to green out? Please note that I'm not very confident of my ability to work the market; I'm looking for more reliable, vendor-or-quest-based options.

Fishing. You will make more in fish sold than money spent and eventually will catch treasure maps. Skill ups also yield some XP. Wiki has good info on this. Link is in the must have post.

Mining. Once you are able to mine the higher quality ores, you can get a few hundred to a thousand a stack for different ores. Wiki has a great write up on this too.

Beyond that, level. As you go higher, the money making opportunities improve. If you were in the low 50's VS 39 I could think of 4 different things for cash.

There are a few decent ways to make money while you're leveling up. Item drops, farming tradeskill items/learning tradeskills, or just killing mobs that drop cash. The best way is to just find a zone plentiful with xp mobs that drop cash/weapons and/or tradeskill items that are a steady source of income. For example, in lasanth you can usually loot 1-8pp off of any random mob, plus weapons worth 1-2pp, plus tradeskill items, some droppables that even vendor for 75 plat or sell to players, plus garbage vendor loot. This is one that you need to be in the 50s for though, I can't really think of one in the 40s.

Fishing and mining might earn you some cash, but you'll be bored out of your mind and wont level at a significant pace.

Don't kill hill giants for 15 levels. You'll have more fun doing something else.

You missed the Oasis farm at the 20's or so -- 2 nameds that drop a total of 5 different items, each one selling to the vendor for between 12 and 30 plat i think...

The best way to make more money is to level up, honestly. The time you spend farming money now could be spent farming money at places with 5-10x greater return than crappy hill giants if you wait until you are 65.

Knowing what I know now, if I was starting a character I would only farm for spells and maybe a weapon or two for a melee or a dmg inc for a caster, healing for a healer, etc and let the rest take care of itself until at least 50 or so.

The Ice Giant camp is a popular one. If you can take HG's, then IG's are cake, and the loot is typically better. But yeah, leveling up is your best bet.

.... Never found the Hill gaints all that boring, specialy if you bounce between Hill gaints and Spectors.

That aside.. thier right, even Hill gaint cash will pale once you hit some of the other farmer spots. However Hill gaints are one of the first real Plat farming spots.

Rats I think are still one of my favorite, good xp, good cash, and items every once in awhile (however unless your boxing you have to be pretty tough to get a good rate out of rats).

ON a side note I was VERY surpised at just how good cash flow was from Hidden Temple (the one in off the ogre jungle the name escapes me). While camping for Shaman mask items, I would kill the Forgotten in the sewer area + skeletons both above and below. After hours of doing this I finaly got all my items then went to sell my loot. I was shocked it find out I had gotten more cash farming those greenies then camping Rats.

However at a total lack of any xp rats still far exceed the forgotten. But I have wondered how well a lower level group could farm the crap out of that place.

Part of what helps is the High number of named spawns in the zone all close together. Most of thier items selling from 12-80pp... plus forgotten can drop gems, along with thier blood that many tradeskillers want.
