Tavax Darkblood quests

I am stuck on quest I of III. I had the sword un-equipped when the mob i was after aggro'd me. i wasnt paying attention and ran back to oggok as that is where i was heading. the guards killed my mob, and I dont have the sword i was supposed to loot off him. now, Tavax will not give me any dialogue when i try to re-do the quest. I can get to where i say "I want to prove myself" but he doesnt respond further.
any help is welcomed.
 
if i could get a gm to give me another "initiate's longsword", I could complete the quest and move on. maybe. im stuck and I have tried everything i could think of to get him to respond.
