Talk to me about: <type>_DMG

Would someone be so kind as to provide me with a better understanding of how these effects work?

The extent of my understanding (which may need additional specification) is:
- when on a weapon, it applies to the damage portion of the attack and is mitigated by sv_<type> rather than by AC.
- when it's not on a weapon, it applies to the damage portion of spells that match the damage type.

What I don't know is:
- when on a weapon, is a higher CHA required for this damage to be resisted less frequently?
- when on a weapon, is this damage portion affected by the damage increment focus effect?
- when on a shield, is this affecting bash damage or does it apply to spell damage?
- does this effect enhance proc damage that matches the damage type?
- does this effect apply prior to the character meeting the recommended level of the item?
- (assuming individual only, but worth asking) when wielding multiple weapons that all have this field, does the benefit stack across weapons or is it applied only to the individual weapon?

Comparing, for example, a Mithril Shan'Sel at 38/50, to a Blade of Intangible Rending at 20/50, Magic DMG +18, discounting other stats on the Blade, should the damage of these two weapons be fairly similar or will one generally be superior to the other and why?

Also, please advise if there is any other information relevant to this item effect that is worth mentioning but I didn't know to ask about.

Thank you in advance to whomever helps answer these questions for me.

Thanks for all that info, I'd been wondering about that stuff for a while and that breakdown looks pretty definitive.

I do have one further question in this vein, regarding Bane damage - I'm guessing that works similarly to elemental damage but is unresistable against its enemy type?

This thread used to contain several enlightening Zaela posts about elemental and bane damage but they have been deleted. This is what I recall about bane:

Worn bane damage is never resisted.
Weapon bane damage is not scaled for delay.
Equipment bane damage is scaled for weapon delay.
The scaling is performed to at least the tenths decimal place.

Draeos' glyph question below was i believe answered no by Zaela as well.

kinda assuming no but can't hurt to ask, would glyph of shiritri help with the resist rates on weapons with magic damage on them?
