Tailoring Question

I have been reading posts on tailoring as well as guides posted by several people. It appears there has been no updates to any of this material since Crystal Caverns was removed.

First question is where do I get a decent amount of silks now that Crystal Caverns is no more? Halas newbie area is bad due to taking new character xp away from those who need it. Many of the spiders that are in the badlands only drop 1 at a time, 2 if I am super lucky. On live, there was one spider in East Karana that would drop up to 8 silks at once. I am really trying to find that species again I guess. :) I hope it was not wipe complete out by the plague.

Second question, do I need to find a shaman to make the ointments?

Melwin's guide is nice if a bit off due to age. If there is another newer guide that covers all of this information I have not seen it.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you might be able to provide!

corrupted greater darkwebs in East Badlands are pretty decent, if you're high enough level to kill them. (30+)

If you're not, try the jungle spiders in Greenmist. I had pretty good luck with them as a young dark elf.

Ointments can be brewed by a brewer, although they also require a vial that must be made by a potter. What I did was got my brewing to 101 and my pottery to 80 and now I'm able to make both vials and brew ointments with no fail. Unfortunately, the first ointment is a pain in the neck because the balsm required for it is only dropped from 8 mobs at night and usually only 1 or 2 balsms drop off these mobs; many times, I've cleared them only to find not even one balsm!! I'm one of those folks that don't like to buy their way through trades and like to get all the stuff I need on my own, it's part of the fun of doing a trade, IMO. However, I'm now at 140 in tailoring and I'm becoming a bit frustrated with this balsm, hopefully I will be through this stage soon. Anyways, I hope my venting helps some :p

Thanks

Thanks for the information guys. Guess tailoring is gonna be the real pain in the rear tradeskill for me. As if it isn't hard enough to 200 with the hides later we have to deal with the hardness of the ointments too.

Oh well, what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger!
