Stuck!

So, I made myself an Iskar Shadowknight. Everything is going cool. I made it through the dream just fine.
But in the first little village I start off, there's a pool of water that sneaks up on me and I fall in. I can't seem to figure out how to escape.
I just keep swimming around and around, none of the sides allow me to crawl out.
Is there a button I need to press or something?

page up and page down are the defaults for up and down swimming.

If this is the stream on the way out of Grobb (is that where Iksar SKs start?), you may have to go at it at an angle while hitting the Page Up button. I used to always have trouble with that one, too. I think you can use the space bar to help jump out of the water, too.
