Stormwolf and Ice Kobold fur drop rates

In the last few weeks (since I've maxed tailoring) I've farmed west wastes and killed 50+ stormwolves and have cleared labyrinth three times up to the 'top dogs' camp and have not gotten a single fur of either type. A friend (Edodre) also spent 3 hours at top dogs and nothing. Have drop rates been slashed since the double augs or have I been getting extremely unlucky  :(

Got 3 drops from entrance hall up to top right now. Guess you was just unlucky.

I don't know about Ice Kobold Fur, but I know that stormwolf fur is hard to get in WW. Kited over 30 with no drops, but they seem to be on the same spawn as all the other random mobs in zone, so you quickly run out of stuff to kill if you aren't on Giant faction.

-=Vanlos=-

It would be nice if there was an alternate ingredient to hunt for these VS stormwolf fur for those on dragon faction. And no, I am not saying that you must be on giant faction to kill stormwolves. But to get stormwolved to spawn you need to kill other things, drakes, wyrms etc. If there was an alternate, perhaps in EW it could help in both cases of drop rate (if this is considered a real problem VS jsut bad luck) and faction concern.

Thanks.

Stormwolves are not on dragon faction. :dumb:

He knows that. He's saying that because stormwolves share the spawngroup with drakes and wyrms et al. that, to effectively hunt there, you must kill drakes and wyrms.

Thank you Rab =)

And Tryfaen, I did not realize that the ice kobold fur was for the same recipe. My bad.

was playing around with charm spells last night and a boxed pally, and i cleared every kobold from bottom to top 4 times. No fur. I understand that this drop rate should be low, we don't want a flurry of +30 mana augs....

...but the drop rate still seems a little low.

Ok, two weeks later....

I have managed to farm a stack of ice kobold furs over about five nights in this time, roughly one to three hours or about four complete clears of kobolds and spiders, top to bottom including 'top dogs' (no basement), per night. It seems as if the drop rates are bursty; I would see three furs in an hour and then nothing for the next two hours. With the average rate I have gotten ice kobold furs, I can now say that I believe that the drop rates of ice kobold are just about on par (maybe just slightly lower) with the economy demands and how much a sane tailor can farm to keep up.

However, when sorc lab is camped, I gave stormwolves another shot and to no avail. I have farmed stormwolves for about half that time that I have spent in sorc lab in the last few weeks and have yet to have a single fur to show for it (aside the one I have gotten from other players in this time). It probably has to do with the fact you cannot 'zerg kill' the stormwolves as much as you can the kobolds, and the drop rates do not reflect this fact.

So, given the risks of hunting in western wastes, the difficulty of stormwolves, and the current drop rate, I do believe that the drop rates of stormwolf fur should be looked at and increased.

That's why when I want to make augs, I farm sorc's lab. Maybe a set of static wolf spawns could be added to westwastes?

If that, but yeah you just can't zerg the wolves like you can the kobolds. Though honestly the kobolds are mad fun, flamecall=area taunt! :D. I got around 3 of them clearing from bottom to top over a few hours.

I get about 1 fur per village and upper half of starting area clear. so like 1 per 50 mobs( i didnt count mobs and just made up that number).

Tailoring augments could be easier to make.

Compare Blacksmithing VS Tailoring 205 trivial augments:

Obsidian Augment Small Obsidian Ingot x 2 + Platinum Bar + Runepattern 205

Exceptional Quality Platinum Threading x 1, Ice Kobold Fur x 2, Blue Ointment x 1, Oil of choice x 1 255

:psyduck: doh, how did I manage to do that :psyduck: :psyduck:

:psyduck:

I feel dumb now :dumb: :dumb: :dumb:

ok so i totally butchered my previous arguement by linking diferent quality augs in my comparison but my arguement still stands.

Exceptional Tailored augments are more time consuming to make if you farm the items yourself and they are more expensive to make if you buy the materials from other players.

I talked to a blacksmith and he told me what it took to make Exceptional augments. I wont post the recipe here since It isnt in the wiki but it is rediculous to say that they are similarly difficult to make.

There are several options.
1. Increase the drop rate to a reasonable ammount
2. Increase player interest in the zone(more players hunting there = more furs entering the game)(the loot from some of these nameds is just plain bad)
3. Put more Ice Kobolds in the game(Like a few camps outside the zone)(there is a lot of caves in GD and the mobs in those caves are pretty worthless atm)
4. Kodiak pelts or Harthuk hair/fur patch(notice the ice creature theme here?)(I like this idea the most)

Tryfaen,

What you are not taking into consideration is that you can get exp and coin while farming for tailored augs. All you get from the smithed ones are poor and bored out of your friggin' gourd from clicking the pick.

I have killed a lot of stormwolves. I would estimate the drop rate at about 1 fur in every 15-18 kills on a good day of finding a lot of them up on track.

What Tryfaen is getting at. or so I believe, is that it is much easier to get the ore (warpmetal/ghostmetal) required for exceptional quality armor runes than it is to get the fur required for exceptional quality tailoring linings. We have a full market of 300p exceptional quality armor runes and a lack of exceptional quality linings, which go for around 750p each.

On an augment-related note, it would be nice to see exceptional quality type 3's sometime.
