State of the Server.

List of non-technical issues with the server.

We are on EQEMU version 0.4.whatever. This makes it nearly impossible for people who have not previously played before, to start playing. (Well, there is a way, but the Emu people would probably ban WR for it, so I'm certainly not saying anything.)

Which causes problems. The most dedicated players only have the WR-compatable EQ files, so if they weren't 50+, they probably had patched long ago and gone on to something else, or are waiting for us to move to 0.5.0. So everyone ends up level 60 or probably just goes away, barring alts or those quiet, lurker players who only play twice a week for two hours a pop.

Problems? The 60's -- ie, GoTW -- has done pretty much everything there is to do. Raiding and quest wise, anyway. What is there to do? There's already two CLE/PAL epics because there's at least a full group of GoTW players online or in IRC.

We're going through content faster than Wiz can make it, while the few lower level people left putter along at an admittedly faster-than-Live rate.

People are courteous, but for the most part, names not seen before are regarded as people you probably won't see again, and they're often treated as such.

Basically, WR at this point is one guild's playground. This makes the remaining people lacking characters sub-50 a bit wary to bother.

I'm fucking intimidating to talk to unless you know me, can you imagine what it's like to be the new kid in a place where you're one of few of your kind?

Everyone says "The server will be better once 0.5.0 comes out, since there'll be a new infusion of players!" But will it? We've never been in this situation before, so who knows what the server will be like when we're easily accessed again? In the end, the main focus of the server is always gonna be the highest end-game because most of our solid players are there.

Second problem. The glut of GM-power enabled characters.

It's a problem for anything. When nearly half of GoTW is a GM, it becomes compounded.

I'm not going into this further, since I'm sure someone will say I'm just whining because I'm not a GM. But...

The ease of using GM powers is too much. We don't have enough players to warrent the numbers of GM's. When we had more players, we still had fewer GM's. Aaaand the use of GM powers is a bit excessive.

I wasn't innocent of this when I was a GM, but whatever.

My brain isn't large enough to be able to do more than this, right now. I'll come back to it.

Don't reply unless you have something serious to say. You know me. I'm not a nice person when annoyed.[/list]

We haven't done nearly everything, but some of these points are valid. GoTW is the only guild, because the server isn't large enough to fit two. This does create a number of problems.

The GM-power issue is an issue, that I'm adressing, but it's also a blessing when you are struck by the random shit-bugs that occur and there's a GM in the group.

To put my sentence in, I think that if there was another guild on the server they would call GOTW cheaters because they all would think that GMs summoned items/mobs/etc for the guild and would probably get ticked off because of that, saying "Why do we have to Work for it when they Don't need to?".

I played on test server for a while and I was in the high-end guild who Didn't have a GM in it. Oh well there were rumors there was "One" GM in the other guild which helped the others. And of course, you were annoyed of that.

My two cents. Of course, I wasn't around when Eulogy was here. So I don't have any experience from this server. But I do have from test server. Just felt like I had to bring it up.

Good Points made here.....

I was a prior Eulogy member and we did alot of raids and I can only say that GOTW wasnt that big at the time...maybe because most of their members quit, were on breaks, etc. But We worked together in alot of instances and they were always fair on loot etc. That is why when Eulogy fell apart I joined GOTW when given the oppurtunity. Since that time I have not regret my decision.

I do agree when more players come around once 0.5.0 is working on WR, there will have to be some changes that will have to take effect.

Actually, Eulogy was only ahead of us by a bit, in that you were going through ToV at the time and we were dabbling around in ToT.

I always thought we were kinda equal, but all of your players were on daily. All of them. :p

We kinda died out at the time, but Eulogy fell because it failed to continue recruiting ;P

It may be a good idea to hold off recreates

Recreates for old character should be held off at least a week.

If recreates were held off about a week after 5.0 comes out, it would give time for some new players to settle in without being too intimidated by half the server being filled with level 60's. All the old players could try out the new race while finding/fixing bugs.

Not sure on where the frogs will go, but unless 30 new people log on - there will be enough noob spawns to not over crowd the server.

While I can see the point in this, it could prove more than troublesome as the DB will automatically be converted, AFAIK.

DB, as far as items go (as that is my area of expertise), it will have to be converted manually. So technically that idea could work, except there wouldn't be ANY items for the first couple of days while we go crazy converting it all. So by the time you could actually play a new character with items, the old characters will be converted and remade (if remakes are necessary)

I meant the characters, but yeah.

Every MMORPG it's focused on the high end part of the game, no matter what: live, emulator, etc. If it was focused on the low levels, then why would you want to get to high end in the first place?

I know I wouldn't want to level if all the developers are focusing on the low levels.

I don't think you could really focus more on the low levels, it's more of the playerbase. So yes, with 5.0 gives a CHANCE at Winters Roar becoming more successful. How do you focus on low levels when everyone is high end? So if WR gets out right, and enough players join, then there will be more focus to fixing the lower level things and the new additions such as tradeskills that I believe Wiz is working on.

Besides items, skills, etc.. what could you really work on? You can't setup raids for level 10's. That'd just be plain retarded.
