Starting A Druid

Dalayan Beginner
My son and I are starting in Shards of Dalaya--he's going to be a gnome necromancer. I thought I would like to be a druid, probably wood elf. (And a cleric later on, when I learn how to play!)

What starting stats should I go for? One post recommended putting them all into charisma, to reduce resists. I like small groups and soloing best--I have not really enjoyed raiding in the past, although I hear it's much more enjoyable on this server.

I'd be grateful for any other tips that you all care to pass along to a beginner. I know alignments and religions are quite a bit different here--I was a little worried about my son picking an evil class and my picking a good one, but he says we won't have the trouble that we might have in old-school EQ.

Charisma for both of you. Dump every point you can in to it, you'll be happier that you did.

Alignment wise you shouldn't class too much. There will be alot more things that hate him than you, but plenty of things that will hate you and not him, so it sort of balances out. Plenty of exp options exist though, so you won't have any stretch of time where you just can't play with each other.

Other than that, find newbie quests and do them all, don't swear to a God until you REALLY understand the costs of doing so, and /cm specialize help. Good luck!

Also, if you guys ever play separate or one plays more than the other, look into adventuring bands. If you both join one together, any exp either of you get (other than quest and some bonuses) is split 50/50. That way if one of you plays a solid week while the other isn't able to get on, there'll be no gap in levels.

Because of the resist mechanic on the server, you want to max cha on any caster that might use offensive spells. After that, sta can be hard to find until higher levels.

You will probably want to go to the Wiki and look it over. it describes most of the mechanics. You will both want to look up your newbie quests as they give some idea about class ideals/items/etc ....

You will also start in the newbie guild. Feel free to ask questions there. Asking them in ooc will probably get some factitious replies.

Grouping, you should be able to find level appropriate groups at the right dungeon. Though this will be dependent on time of day. Later in the day is more populous. You can ask for the area to go for your level in Dalaya's Beginners. The most populous areas will be;

1) North Newport - 4
2) Newport sewers - 8-10
3) Black Burrow - 8 -14
4) Warrens - 14 -21
5) Warpstone - 21-31
6) Kaladim - late 20s - high 30s
7) heartlands - high 30s - 50
8) Lasanth - 50-55
etc

This shouldn't keep you from trying other places, just it might be hard to find a group immediately. But can have better xp/less competition being more out of the way. these include fearstone, runnyeye, oggok mines, King's Pass, Paw etc...

Your being a druid and him a nec shouldnt be a huge problem. There will be some places you can't go. His nec guild will be KoS to you and yours to him. surefall definitely will be KoS to him.

Class quests might also be problematic since your factions are opposite. but these don't really require help. Alignment isn't really a big deal until you raid and if you are a min/maxer. You can put it off 'til later as after 50s your respective guild become a lot less important since spells are then bought in erudin.

Everyone here is telling you to get as much charisma on your druid as you can, and I agree with them. But also, you should not ignore your mana pool. Add to your wisdom as well, cause when that druid is called on to heal, mana will go quickly. So if you can get items/gear that give +wis +cha AND +mana, that's win.

I think the only issue with 'wasting' your points on Wis is that gear with + wis and +mana is pretty plentiful. +stamina is sparse in the low end as is +cha. I'd say dump all in cha and I don't think the remaining 5-10 pts will make a ton of difference anywhere, but I'd personally go sta prolly.

Also, when you get ports later, make certain the necro is invis'd before porting. Many druid ports have npc's at them that will not like him.

Hello Magpie, and welcome.

Would you be the one that used to keep a board and a database for crafted goods on Live?
