Spell effects

Just started playing here again after a long time away, and I have three bugs I can't seem to fix.

1) I have a poison icon in my buff window on all my characters, even on a fresh made char.

2) I can't see any spell effects or particle effects, and I can't enable them through options.

3) My bard song effects window is filled up with Unknown Spell Effect

This was a fresh install of EQ on a fresh reformat, I followed the instructions in the Join page to the letter and replaced the Help files with the ones provided. I also copied the default UI files as the Join page says. I am using Sars Caster UI from the download page.

I did a forum search for the OoW particles bug and there's a whole thread about fixing it, but it was edited by a moderator with red text saying not to use any of those methods and instead to follow the instructions on the join page.. which I did.

#1 You must run the WR patcher in order for spells to work properly
#2 Make sure you hit the run button on the patcher after the files are downloaded or the files won't be patched.

Yes i have the same problem.

And no the WR Patcher did not fix it

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. I was tempted to try the advice in that old thread but it says to not try it now. It says just use the introduction tips instead but they did not work. Everything about the game seems to work, apart from the spell effects.

Jinsai and Acrobat,

Pull down a new (actually older) default UI. The poison icon and strangeness in your bard box are due to some incompatibilities between the eqgame.exe that we use and the default UI that OoW is using. The link to the default UI is located in the newly updated Starting Guide.

As for your spell effects, it is because you have a OoW spellsnew.eff file. That file will likely be added to the patcher very soon, so in the meantime deal with it or find some way of updating your spellsnew.eff file.

Hiya, thanks for the help i think ive nearly fixed it but its still not 100%

I deleted the spellsnew.eff file, and now the spell effects work and i can see them on other characters and on my character in external view. But i dont see spell effects in 1st person view.

Can anyone suggest a way to get them to work in 1st person view?

p.s. i played with the sliders and particle distance which now work, but they didnt help to make the effects visable in 1st person view.
