spell aggro

was just wondering why until you actually start meleeing a mob spell aggro doesnt seem to do much a lot of the time, any way to change this? sometimes i cast 3-4 spells and the mob still runs by me at a healer starting a heal or a lazy necro lying there
 
Cuz distance from mob matters in its priority. Casters would NEVER be able to avoid aggro if it was otherwise.
 
think the problem is an SK can do 3x Jolts and until he melees it once, his agro isnt set right. Same for pally blinds and what not. I believe it has something to do w/ doing dmg for the agro spells to register right.
 
Yes, until you do damage, you can build up as much aggro as you want, but a mob will still prox-aggro anyone else. So if you're casting on a mob as it runs towards your group/raid, you also want to position yourself so it won't run past anyone else before getting to you.

Yeah this is the case. You can aggro with spells as much as you want but without a melee hit the mob is likely going to skip you and nail somebody. We had this happen a lot in Goon Squad.
 
Mobs prioritize distance and casting until you get some real damage in. It's a pain but it's easy enough to plan for when it matters.

i know distance matters, you can use root to improve your aggro for instance. but what i meant is last night (once again) i tagged a mob with a spell, landed 2 more as it ran towards me (i was the first person in its path) and ran to the raid which was standing waaaaay the hell back. does the aggro here work like a dam? building up pressure until its finally broken by a melee hit and you get all that aggro spell to actually do shite? is this intended?
 
u need to do dmg to it, or its not agro. thats why on my SK, i always use some Tap/or quick DD to hit the mob. If anyone is casting on the mob, before the mob actually hits you, or you hit him, like a DD, a slow, a heal on you... the mob will go to him. ive had wipes in MoTEC and Hatesfury cause of that already, sucks, but we gotta deal with it.

not entirely correct, there are only a few mobs/areas that ive had this issue with, most times it seems to work just fine though
 
I have had the same problem. Cast blind/AA stun on a mob (and have it land). But instead of coming at me, it runs to someone who had no agro on it or proximity only agro rather.
