Something that happens in WoW =D

One thing that has urked me about MMORPGs since EQ has been the fact that if the game allows a certain mechanic to be used by a player how can that be a "against policy". I understand certain topics like naming convention and I think those should be enforced. But for example if you are able to stand behind a wall and the NPC is not smart enough to move around the wall to attack you why is the player punished in this situation. Now this has to be taken within reason because if the wall the player is standing behind is on the outside of the world model then that is another story. However a lot of game companies punish the player if he finds a flaw in the game such as AI logic, or bad pathing, etc. This in my opinion is wrong, if anything the game designers should be awarding the players for finding that tactic. Then fix the "problem" in the game and move on.

Here is a perfect example, the mobs arent smart enough to get to the players so the players can stand up in a tower and kill them without harm. Now the players are being told to stop or they will be punished. This is stupid, if I were a GM I'd come up with a temporary solution to the problem until the code could be fixed (IE perma despawn the guards, make the guards regen really high so that nobody could kill them, etc.) Then I would reward the players with some gold or something and tell them thanks for making WoW better and to be on their way.

Anyway I just wanted to say that because I never understood why game companies act like that to paying customers.

I met a few on WR, but it would be great to see a lot more of it... :D

Yeah except people really take the fun out of it when you RP and they keep going "Where does such and such drop? What level are you? Are you LFG?" Bleh...

Pfffb they call themselves pirates. back in the hay days of UO my friend ran the toughest band of pirates sailing the seven seas, jacking players and macroers whever they could be found.

YAARR HARRR, Avast there ye slab sided bilge rat! Lower your plank and surrender your SoS's, or prepare to be sleepin in davey jones' lockhar...

Usually if the player complied with us, we'd just take his loot and leave... although one time we did make off with one guy's ship who was running a macro and left his plank out.. good times

Yo Ho! Yo Ho! A pirates life for me. We pillage, we plunder - We rifle, we loot Drink up me hearties Yo Ho! We kidnap, we ravage - and dont give a hoot!! Drink up me hearties Yo Ho!

My biggest problem with that GM interaction is that the GM didn't even bother to play in character at all while interacting with an entire group that was RPing. So disappointing...

I vote for sending her off the plank as well...ARGH!

Yeah, she should spend extra time catering to the needs of a bunch of smartassed jerks that like to break policy.

That reply may well have been as dumb as that other one about the big knight coming to slay NAME VIOLATORS.

I know they were being smartasses. :) It was funny to me, but I didn't seriously think they were roleplaying anyway. I mean a band of pirates who I assume were just hanging out inland somewhere...meh.

But really I have seen GM's come in to break up something in EQL and they played in character. It was rare, but it was cool. It was due to something unintentional though. People who deliberately break rules though shouldn't be catered to. I agree totally. It's one of those GM discretion things though.

Speaking of GM's RPing on EQL...the one GM event I remember most on EQL was leading up to luclin being open and we had to recover some things for Al'Kabor. Anyway, after it was all over with (I was playing my paladin alt...lvl 35 at the time) they gave us tokens to turn in for rewards. Ummm yeah. I got a 7/25 1hs. Wow...great. Um. Thanks?

Man EQL sucked ass...

I think if the GM would have been in RP as well as a pirate or a royal servent that is to police the area, basicly some1 that is anti pirate from back then, then the GM would have had more cooperation with the players and would have gone alot smoother, i think at 1 point the GM was rofl. i know i was, and i think i just wook everyone up (4am and just got home from work)

ah archimonde,

I am Tkon 60 priest from Discordia

That game was fun but.... has no content and was way too damn easy to level IMHO.
