Something that happens in WoW =D

My biggest problem with that GM interaction is that the GM didn't even bother to play in character at all while interacting with an entire group that was RPing. So disappointing...

I vote for sending her off the plank as well...ARGH!

Yeah, she should spend extra time catering to the needs of a bunch of smartassed jerks that like to break policy.

That reply may well have been as dumb as that other one about the big knight coming to slay NAME VIOLATORS.

One thing that has urked me about MMORPGs since EQ has been the fact that if the game allows a certain mechanic to be used by a player how can that be a "against policy". I understand certain topics like naming convention and I think those should be enforced. But for example if you are able to stand behind a wall and the NPC is not smart enough to move around the wall to attack you why is the player punished in this situation. Now this has to be taken within reason because if the wall the player is standing behind is on the outside of the world model then that is another story. However a lot of game companies punish the player if he finds a flaw in the game such as AI logic, or bad pathing, etc. This in my opinion is wrong, if anything the game designers should be awarding the players for finding that tactic. Then fix the "problem" in the game and move on.

Here is a perfect example, the mobs arent smart enough to get to the players so the players can stand up in a tower and kill them without harm. Now the players are being told to stop or they will be punished. This is stupid, if I were a GM I'd come up with a temporary solution to the problem until the code could be fixed (IE perma despawn the guards, make the guards regen really high so that nobody could kill them, etc.) Then I would reward the players with some gold or something and tell them thanks for making WoW better and to be on their way.

Anyway I just wanted to say that because I never understood why game companies act like that to paying customers.

/auc WTS Sarcasm detector slightly used

I know they were being smartasses. :) It was funny to me, but I didn't seriously think they were roleplaying anyway. I mean a band of pirates who I assume were just hanging out inland somewhere...meh.

But really I have seen GM's come in to break up something in EQL and they played in character. It was rare, but it was cool. It was due to something unintentional though. People who deliberately break rules though shouldn't be catered to. I agree totally. It's one of those GM discretion things though.

Speaking of GM's RPing on EQL...the one GM event I remember most on EQL was leading up to luclin being open and we had to recover some things for Al'Kabor. Anyway, after it was all over with (I was playing my paladin alt...lvl 35 at the time) they gave us tokens to turn in for rewards. Ummm yeah. I got a 7/25 1hs. Wow...great. Um. Thanks?

Man EQL sucked ass...

They were actually in character. They are part of a pirate guild. They only accept members who show an excellent display of pirate ballyhoo. So avast ye landlubber! Or ye be walking da plank an' sleeping in Davy Jones's locker ya long clothes bilge rat! Stow the mizzenmast before I keel haul ya an' tie ya's to the yardarm fer all's ta see!

Man EQL sucked ass...
Indeed... Quite...

That made me LOL IRL.

They should have just feigned not speaking english. While you're role playing, you may as well take it to the extreme.

Now that is hilarious - unfortunately I couldn't access that link from work - darn proxies - so I had to wait to see what the hubbub was about.

Reminds me of something a friend once told me about a guild on UO that RP'd as pirates and camped by a bridge demanding tolls from people (and PK'n).

I am thankful you are not an MMORPG policy maker.

due to the horrible effort it would take to make sure every guarded beat you to a fine pulp when you did something we told you not to do, we will make it an exception. Please feel free to circumvent further rules for your personal enojyment, while making others feel horrible.

Thank you,

Poor Policy Department

I have sympathy for a donation-run emu-server when it comes to policy enforcement, and many times GM-interaction is much easier than re-coding to enforce the policy (for example, having a GM actively name-nerf).

I don't have sympathy for a company that invents policies to make up for botched coding when they are charging so much and have so many subscribers.

I don't know whether or not a GM should stay in character when trying to enforce a policy on an RP server (frankly I don't really see how it would be very possible, considering you're basically saying "You guys are allowed to kill people, just not from this spot.") - but to say it's as dumb as that horse-riding, name-nerfing contruct is a little off IMO...

Whatever, that whole conversation was hilarious tho - crazy pirates.

RP server wtf is the guys smooking ^^

That's Archimonde. It's the main WoW PVP server, not a roleplay server. They are fucking hilarious and always do shit like that.
