SoD Wikipedia -- Have something you want to add?

JayelleNephilim

"Helpy Helper"
I have heard a lot of people mention that they are not really sure how to enter things into the Wiki, but have things they'd like to add (I'm not sure how the Staff feels about this, but I would love to volunteer to be the "go to" person for this). Granted I am still learning how to get around the Wiki myself, however, I feel pretty comfortable with the general aspects of adding things, and most importantly I am willing.

In any event, If anyone has items/info they would like added to the Wiki feel free to PM me with the details (make sure you check the Wiki first to confirm it has not already been added). Make sure you include all the necessary information. IE:

* Item stats -- please make sure that you include ALL info that is listed.
* Zone -- where the mob/item was found
* Mob -- name of mob -- what item was looted off of
* Location -- where in the zone mob can be found/item was looted
* Known Loot -- list any other known loot related to your submission
* Quests -- list any info known that is related to the item/mob
* Other -- IE: Any helpful strategies related to said mob

******Make sure that spelling is accurate******

Here is an example submission:

Cloak of Uber Dragon Slayer
MAGIC ITEM LORE ITEM NO DROP
Slot: Back
AC: 500
Effect: Can O' Whoop Arse (Worn)
STR:+50 STA:+50 HP:+250 MANA:+250
SVMAGIC:+50 SVCOLD:+50
WT:0.0 Size: TINY
Class: ALL
Race: ALL

----

Zone: Sea of Dragons
Mob: Lady Odessi
Location: North West portion of zone; on the far island
Quests: Unknown

----

Known Loot for Lady Odessi:
- also drops Sword of Nub Slaying but I do not know the stats

----

Strategies:
- Lady Odessi was a level 65 mob that quad hit for 900's and had a fire based AOE. Our strategy was to zerg her, keeping the casters out of AOE range. ^ full groupls of level 60+ are suggested for this mob.

----

Other:

- Other mobs that I noticed in the zone were: Terentella the Nightcrawler and a corrupted roaming adventurer. Terentella conned red to me at level 60, but the a corrupted roaming adventurer conned even.

known loot from mob, mob strats, and other mobs in zone are hardly something that needs to be on an item page.

Some templates on the wiki would be nice in the form of
- Item
- NPC
- Quest
- Zone

A standardized way of organization would be spectacular

Jayelle wasn't implying that all be on the item page. Those were different examples she was listing - Only the first was about an item.

Point being that there should be a standardized way to list everything. Each example independantly is bare bones and together is too much.

Doing each independently is exactly how a wiki should work, with internal links where relevant:

Awesome item

<Stats>

Drops off of Awesome MOB (link to Awesome MOB) in Awesome zone (link to Awesome zone).

What else is needed?

Exactly! (There are also quest links, and at times special notes posted about the mob/item/zone but I get what you're saying).

If you had looked at anything I have posted on the Wiki you will see I have either:

a) followed the "standardized way to list everything*
or
b) created a new standardized way to list things being that my entry was a new one.

In any event, having the info on the Wiki (but not in your so called standardized form) > no info at all IMHO! At least if the info is posted, others can go back and edit it as they see fit (which is basically what is happening now anyways).

Like I stated in my original post, at least I am willing ....

I think the confusion here is that Jayelle's example is of the information she wants given to her, not of the way the information will end up in the Wiki. She'll take all that info and break it into the appropriate chunks with the appropriate links.

ok, you are taking this in the completely wrong direction....

My point being that maybe the best thing to do is actually to come up with a standarized way of organization and put it in the Help page.

Using this guide to sorta hodge-podge info together leads to entries like the 'main quest' lines of entries for the new storyline quests. It is one quest which is the same for everybody, but is listed under different classes based on the rewards. imo it should be just like the Ring V quest and just broken up based on class, exactly like the Insignia of Newport is.

EDIT: And while it is great to have any info at all on a subject, it is very frustrating seeing an entry like this

I totally agree that some standard should try to be adhered to. We started that on the first wiki but unfortunately not everyone is aware/follows it.

Example

This is an example of the format we were working towards for quests.

The neat thing aboutthat is you can reformat the information to the better template even if you can't fill in all the blanks.

That's pretty much the way it should be. It's clean, easy to follow, has links to all relevant items, zones, NPC's, and any pre-requisite quests that may need to be done.
