For anyone who hates how loud the fireplaces in cata are, the waterfalls in various zones, the thunder, and some other things. This little mod simply lowers the volume of many sounds, though some sounds like rain/thunder/wind and probably a few others are changed.

This is just what I am playing with currently. I edit the sound files whenever I run into something I don't like.

Here is one for the pet classes. This file will remove the wiz pet flap sound, the gorilla grunt, and the spectre flappy type sound.

What sounds do the majority find too loud? We can lower them by default if this is a widespread concern!
 
Thunder is by far the worst offender, with the aforementioned waterfalls and fireplaces being just behind that. Dropping cash into the bank (while the sound of cold cash is always nice) is a tad louder than it ever need be.

I concur with the thunder and fireplace volume. I haven't had any issues with waterfall noise, but I don't spend much time around them. The coin noise is loud, but is not annoying to me, perhaps it's because it's completely player controlled.
 
I've yet to tinker with this, but "flapping" sounds from Drakes, Imps, and Ravens (i.e. WIZ/RNG pets) are especially annoying. Gorilla grunting is also broken and loops perpetually instead of intermittently. Also, anyone else hear that constant creepy "clicking" noise in zones like Catacombs?
 
Ah yes the gorilla sound. That one could be easily edited to make it so it only grunts once in a while. The drake one could be as well, but making it only once in a while would not make any sense :p Perhaps the solution to the flap sounds is to find/edit/make a much softer sound.

Actually, does the gorilla even need an idle sound?....It still howls once in a while anyways right?

Can we edit out the constant buff casting effect of the bard ancient proc song? (Spell: Ancient: Song of the Mindflaye) That is something that never needed to be there...
This can possibly done client-side through manipulation of spells_us.txt, though I'd need to check later.

While we're on the subject, it's unfortunate that Bards are forced to do their animations every single tick instead of intermittently, as the end result is usually just the silly skeleton gouging his eyes out with gigantic blades every tick anyway! If only it could be scaled back to animate randomly and much less often following initial casts, though I have no clue how - or if - this could be modified!
 
2 biggest loud offenses I recall:

Sepulcher of Darkness - Walking into an area with a torch is way too loud.
Red Sun Peaks - Right next to firegrotto when you get close to the lava a deafening BOOM

1. Thunder
2. Flapping of wings (drakes) and whatever you are standing next to.
3. Doors (I think they need to be toned down a tad, because they aren't that bad)

Anyone else know what I'm talking about with that creepy "clicking" noise every few seconds in places like Catacombs and Sepulcher? I have no clue what it's meant to be.
 
yup I know which sound you mean. It's like tiny little bones snapping or something very small crunching. Or some sort of insect sound.
 
Updated with a new file to remove three sounds that pet classes deal with. It probably works, though I didn't find any wizards, necros, or beastlords to verify. I did verify with other similar mobs though. Anyways let me know if it doesn't work.

The coins sound is really awesome because it's sampled from Pink Floyd's "Money"! :)
