SoD on EQ2 Emu?

Are there any plans at the moment to make a similar project with the EQ2 Emu once it actually reaches beta/final? Just curious :)

Though I'm not on the dev team, from the reading I've done on the boards, I'll venture to say no.

I believe the next step once SoD has had its time is Dawntide.

I doubt Dawntide will ever be worked on.

Bah. Well, I suppose I won't bother offering up my talents then to help. Maybe I'll try and do something similar (not story wise, but basically MOD EQ2). Would Wiz take offense to that? I mean, it'd be a unique story and everything, not even close to what EQ2 or SoD is about.

I think it would be a neet venture. I would play EQ2 SoD. That would be pretty awsome. It would requeire allot of work though, the EQ2 client is pretty major from what I have heard.

You mean an EQ2Emu or what? Because if it has no similarity lorewise then I don't quote understand why Wiz would be offended by it.

Yea, it'd be completely original as well. No ties to EQ, EQ2, or SoD. I'm a bit worried Wiz would be offended as he's the only person who's done such a project. If he wouldn't be though, I'm going to start working on a storyline so I can get the preliminary framework down, then finish teaching myself C and C++ so I can start on the project myself once the EQ2 emu reaches beta.

Incorrect. Lotsa people with customized EQEmu-based servers with different plots and spawns and zone connections, etc. If you were to say Wiz and Co has done the best job and the most customization, you'd be right; however, the idea of doing a custom server based upon an emulator is nothing new.

If you don't know C++ inside and out already, best of luck with this. I'm not familiar with EQ2Emu, but I looked around EQEmulator's source for a week or so, and while it seems pretty sensible and interesting, it's certainly not the best project to cut your c++ teeth on.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

I'm talking about with it's own storyline and custom spells and all that fun stuff. I mean there's been so much added to SoD that you could almost get away with not calling it EQ.

Anyways, I've completed a decent book (teach yourself C++ in 30 days), as well as C++ for dummies, and done some small things, but nothing on this scale. Besides, I'm unemployed, so it's not like I have much else to do with my time right now anyways.

Personally, I've yet to see one applied to an MMO, and the only RPG I ever saw modded was Morrowwind, but that was because the devs packed tools with the game so you could.
