SoD on a corporate machine?

Specifically - will they find it?!

I'm an admin for the company, and I should know better, but I'd like be able to try 2-boxing with two machines. I have a company laptop (that's way better than the desktop I'm using, in any case).... so my question is, if I copy my Game/SoD directory over to the laptop, does anyone know if it will show up in a TrackIT software inventory? As far as I know, EQ doesn't do anything to the Registry, correct? I'm thinking that's the only way it would show up, but I'm not entirely familiar with how TrackIT does its thing.

Not only could I 2-box, but I could play while traveling, which I do a couple of times a month.

Just curious what any other techs/admins here think. TIA.

Load not only SoD but several programs of differing types.

If anyone asks, you had heard of some programs not registering and loaded it for testing purposes. You thought you had deleted them all, but you must has missed a couple.

To answer your question, you have to load EQ to play, and yes, it registers. I do nto knwo that program specifically, but it will detect just about anyhting that wants to install itself in "program files", as that is where windoes puts registered programs.

The game does NOT register/install in any form. You also don't have to copy the file to the "Program Files" directory.

.net does register tho, but guess thats not a problem to explain, if it isn't already installed.

Yeah, it doesn't register anything - I just copied it over from my home machine, put it in "My Documents/EQ", and ran the SoD patcher from there. Worked like a charm. Nice and fast, too. Now, if I can just get used to playing on a laptop keyboard...

I actually did run a test - have an old version of Civilization (1!) that I also put in My Docs. Didn't show up at all in the software scan.

Thanks, folks. Now I'll at least have something to do when I travel.

In my registry, there are close to 30 entries for the word "THAT WHICH SHALL NOT BE NAMED" alone.

It appears on BELARC...

Care to explain your s00p3r s3kr3t stealth install method?

well even if you copy the game to dvd backup and extract it on to the new comp, the registry will always pick it up for shortcuts and last accessed programs so inless u wanna sit there and clean the registry after every game play and not use any shortcuts. thats a no

Oh, I don't mind so much about shortcuts and the like. I'm certain that TrackIT doesn't go that far.

Heh, no super-secret leet hacking installation method. But, since you can just copy the files, and it works, that means it's not doing anything in the registry that usually gets picked up by auditing software.

And no, on my work machine - no Everquest entries. Not even shortcuts, I guess because I ran the patcher directly from the folder I copied it to.
