Skill ups for weapons

Rambler

Dalayan Beginner
I just bought a 2hb weapon for my monk, and I figured it'd skill up quickly, considering everything else did (H2H, as well as other non weapon related skills, etc), but I've been fighting for 20 minutes with no skill up. Granted they were green, but I skill up with Flying Kick, etc, on green mobs. And I'm sure I've skilled up with H2H on greens.

Any ideas? Or just a bad streak?

Few things here:

First, monsters need to be at least light blue for you too skill up on.

Second, the reason you might be confused is that defensive skills go up on greens, such as defense, dodge, etc.

Third, when you do find light blue or higher mobs to train on, know that your skill rise is not based on how often you hit. It is just based of of your attempt to hit. I.E. you can get a skill raise by missing.

Fourth, with that in mind, try to keep your attack delay low with a fast 2hnd blunter and some haste if you can ;)

Good luck to you!!!

Melee skills (1hs, 2hs, h2h, etc, NOT specialtiy skills like kicks and dragon claws and ll that) can only be raised on light blue mobs and higher.

Figured as much, thanks.

Oh, while I'm at it...

I haven't skilled up in mend in a while. Does it just not go up higher? It always works, so I don't really have a problem I suppose.

And sneak... does it go higher than 75? I stopped trying to get skill ups when everything else was 90. I figured it just didn't go higher.

Mend always goes to 100 and monks cap Sneak at 75

I think Rambler means this..
I am level 37 fighting giants in EW.. I have 2 1HS weapons on my warrior and the skills are maxed for level 37..
I ding 38,
I pull another giant, before its dead, I maxed 1hs and sense heading and defensive and offensive and Double Attack all maxed out.. and got 3 skill ups on repostle and dodge... and got 4 skill ups on taunt.

Next I equiped 2 1hb weapons(skill is only 15) killed 3 giants(took longer) and I got only 2 or 3 skill ups ... skill went to 18.

It seems like when you ding a level, your skills max out almost instantly.. but if you try to bring up a skill that you dont use, it takes much much longer... This could be how its intended to work..

I have never noticed that problem. I tested this a little (as a caster) on exp mobs I was fighting. My 2hnd blunt and peircing rose pretty close to the same. Maybe getting a wis/int buff would help you guys out?

Yeah I've noticed that. The farther a skill is from it's cap the harder it is to get individual raises in it.

Fought for three hours, got roughly 30 skill ups. Now I'm resting close to 40.

I broke out H2H for a fight, and raised all five h2h points before the end of the fight. Now, it is 27 delay, rather than 40, but that's not a huge difference. Erm, I also use it in offhand, so I suppose that's about right then. Twice as fast... but I may not even level 2hb in two fights.

It could be that lower levels take longer to skill up, and higher levels not so much. So it doesn't even matter which one's your better one. Anyone done any testing on lower level characters? And how much they skill up in an hour?

Or how about this, anyone gone from using 2hb to h2h? And tried to skill up h2h? And noticed that it went much quicker?

leveling 2hb from 20-200 at level 40 took me roughly 8 hours of chain pulling in sirens grotto, IIRC.

The last 2 hours or so was skill 150-200. I have it logged.. I'll check it out later I guess.

I do think that skill raises are directly related to their current caps. Thats why you don't run around as a newbie missing everytime with 0 skill. I also remember trying to raise 2hs, 1hb, and piercing from 0 at level 55, and it took forever to get going. With my monk/shaman duo currently at 25, they're getting 2hb raises much faster than I did with 2hs at 55, about 1-3 per fight.

What level are you? If you're higher than 50 you won't see many increases until you get over 110 skill or so.

33 at the moment.

It's now almost 100, and the weapon is starting to work fairly well. So I'm happy. I don't have to switch for the tougher fights (which was rare anyway).

Oh, the delay is 40, so that could possibly be why too. I wish I had something faster.

Skill ups by my logs. This is with a 30 delay 2hb, with a 15% haste item.

In my log, once the skill came up around 100, skill came super fast. Seems like the only reason it went up slowly was because it was low.

I also think that some of these are wrong. ie session 5... I believe I switched to 1h weapons, as I was soloing. If I really cared that much, I'd check my log, but I don't, so I won't.

I spent ~8-10 hours fighting a constant string of blues in order to get 170 skill points. Doesn't seem too bad to me.

Hmm, that's much faster than me, but it should be.

I'm skill 135 - 140 now, so it's not too bad at all. 30 more to my cap for level. Only took about 10 hours I'd say.

Forgot to add that I had 28% haste from my shaman as well, which should, theoretically, make the skill go up 28% faster.

Curious - what hastes are you running around with?
