Skill developement...

Ok.. I've noticed a huge difference between the skill developement between low levels and higher levels... At 1-15 I was struggling to get the skills enough high, they didn't seem to go up almost at all. But later on I could max my skills at easy, just a few spells (like 7-15) and voilá: The skill is capped till next level again.

I just don't understand why it's supposed to be so much harder for newbies? =) pls, no answers like "just because it is meant to be" :p I want reasons. At low levels, exp is so big that skills can't keep up :( So that leads to getting butt kicked by some lowbie mobs :(

How long ago were you a newbie? Not to long ago a change was made that made skills increase much faster below 100 I believe it is. Once the change went in I noticed an immediate difference in how quickly I am skilling up. This includes a druid that was around 11 or 12 at the time and my chanter that was 18.

As a WR newbie myself (less than 2 weeks), I've seen all my skills go up surprisingly fast for my Human War, Half-elf bard, and Dwarf cleric (so it's not just the human bonus). In fact, I had Sense Heading maxed at 200 on all 3 chars before level 10. :D MUCH nicer than EQL where skills didn't get maxed until levels got much longer.

Think of it this way, the Exp Debt you get from dieing due to crappy skills ensures that you'll be able to spend more time at that level, and thus have more opportunity to get skill increases. It's a built in governor to ensure at least most of your skills keep up. :)

It's always been true that learning a skill from 1-50 is pretty dang slow, 50-100, kinda slow, and above that it's not so bad. Except for Archery usually....

On a slight tangent:

Do trade skills also follow this pattern on WR? On EQL it was just the opposite. Skill gain got slower and slower the higher you got.

I'm looking forward to starting to improve some trade skills as soon as I get some levels and PP under my belt. ;)

I am not so sure that 1-50 is as slow for some skills. I gain combat/casting skills fairly well now below 50. General Skills seem a little bit harder - forage was a pain (took me two days with the key macro and training my skill to 48 before I got a skill up and actually foraged something).

Now forage is working pretty well and has gone up almost 20 points in a few days and I am foraging pretty regular now.

Purely anecdotal,

But skills seem to go up a lot faster after skill 21.

I do like that the ranger can keep four weapons current fairly easily, and would be able to keep five going if I ever felt like lugging a 2hb around. I also really like that a non-melee can train defense without having to spend entire levels soloing low blues.

The early levels always go much faster than the skill ups, and with WR's acceleratted levelling and skilling, that pattern is just more obvious than it was on live.

I have never seen pick pocket go up on my Rogue. I stopped using it recently because I'm not even sure if it CAN go up, but you'd think it should.

What is your current level in pickpocket? I have no experience with it but I know forage was a pain to get going on my druid. I had to invest until it was at 48 - then it slowly started to progress and still took a couple of days before I actually saw it skill up. And it is bound to my A key which is turning left/strafe left so it gets used quite a bit.

I had a skill up every 3-4 time i did it AT LEAST, maybe you should try improving your wis/int ?

I think at 105 my Wis is ok.

I heard other people (via ooc) that were in the 30's with their forage were having difficulties too.

105? Even at 123 intelligence my skills are just starting to go up more quickly. My brother plays a barbarian with maybe 60 or 70 in his higher stat and his skills go up extremely slowly.
