SK Help

CrackerJ

Dalayan Adventurer
I'm borrowing a friends SK (who no longer plays) and I find myself someone at a loss on how to do much DPS. He has all of his AA's and most of the spells and common clickies like Combine armor.

I have the latest spear/lifetap/terror spells but no clue on what common clickies or buffs/aa's I should be using.

The goal is to take him with my cleric to duo some First Ruins.

EDIT
Outside Werefrog idol, what are some lifetap/dd proc clickies I could farm or buy to up my SK/CLR auto attack damage? The Cleric has a Rod of Chancellery, which as a nice proc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When fighting a lot of mobs at once (3+) use a big 2hander for more riposte dmg. Maximize your DS (soul shroud, SB mage ds before leaving). Be efficient in casting spells in between melee rounds to not lose dps by casting when you could be swinging. If you're boxing a cleric you won't need to terror much for aggro, use your mana on spears/lifetaps. Use AA terror in between swings for aggro, cleric won't steal it off of you except if there's a but ton of mobs you just aggroed. Use word of spirit to pickup pulls and get initial aggro so cleric doesn't steal healing aggro in the beginning.

Get a pet clickie and do the class tome that let's you blow it up for ae Dmg. Use both terrors brazen bull and life tap. Melwins idol or fire illusion is pretty awesome too.

How much damage does the class tome hit for? I could get one of those Fire pet torch clickies, but if it takes too long to summon and the damage isnt high it may not be worth the period of no auto attacks. Any reason why to get a clickie over just summoning my pet? Or is it a casting time thing?

I forgot about the fire illusion, I could camp that token as the DS would be better than the lifetap of werefrog in terms of damage.

Are the SK debuffs even worth casting on named?
Are there any upgraded version of the Visage of Terror Master (Fearstone) with a better clickable buff that procs?
For FD pulls, should I try to get a root clickie to better pull singles? Or is there a better way to handle this?

P.S. Nice power sink signature btw.

I think at rank 2 hits for 2000pt ae on 6 targets. I like the fast cast clickies cause it saves a spell gem and usually faster cast.

I like the ds debuff.

use self buff that works realy well, soulshroud.

I just normal fd pull. no root

Any examples of fast pet summon clickies? I can root around in the wiki if not. I remember the torch one being slow. It doesnt matter what pet you blow up?

Any tips on how to quickly seperate a single pull from a pack without root? Or do you have someone tagging in these cases?

I'm not sure if he has Soulshroud or the Runic spear spell unfortunately. My cleric has the first runic spell but I remember that quest taking a bit of time to farm. I just cant remember how involved it was to get these spells.

My phone blew up my post, but the post below this covers my post... Also, farming a runic 1 for a guy you want to use as a farm bot is going to be more trouble than it is worth imo.

Can always pay the 13k to buy soul shroud of the FoB vendor at night (if no refuge access), it will pay for itself in usefulness. Shroud has a lifetap proc built into it, so no reason to farm the mask. I thought the fire pet torch thing was a healer only clickie, also slow cast. You want something that can proc a pet, or a quick/instant cast, so that you don't lose melee rounds to summon a pet. Level of pet doesn't matter for the tome to make him go boom. A ToLL or Crown of Elements would be better than werefrog. As for spells, as others have said, Brazen Bull (more ds damage), have pbae loaded for multi-pulls, best spear or 2, and lifetap. Have cleric use ancient hammer, divine rage AA, and buy a BoE haste item if you want to boost it more.

Only thing I think others have missed is to keep Vortex of Death up on yourself/cleric. The debuff doesnt matter, but it gives you 15/tic overcap FT which is a ton of extra mana, which will allow you to do extra lifetaps/spears for dps, as well as extra cleric mana if needed.

Make sure you always have a relic DS and GOE for buffs. Make sure you start casting spells immediately after you swing your 2H weapon, so that spellcasting takes the least possible time away from meele swings.

What AoE do SK's get for agro outside Shout of Agony?
2-hander then over sword and board? Worth the armor loss when DPS is a concern I'm guessing.

Last night I was able to get into a rotation at First Ruins for Hunter/Bladeforger/Spider area. The SK would just flop around while I kept the Cleric at a safe spot.
The named spawn rates were quite mean though and I only got one named in 4 rounds of clears. Are there any better areas to setup shop for named in there once I get the hang of things?

First Ruins has a mechanic (commonly known as rust-code) where nameds have a small chance to spawn any time a certain type of trash mob is killed. So the more sivakians you kill, the better odds you have of getting nameds.

Also, if your cleric has the ancient hammer and Yaulp 6, you would really be better off having him with the SK to help dps. Trying to clear things with just the SK is going to be painfully slow, and if the cleric is parked somewhere you also run the risk of getting aggro on him from heals (if a mob adds or gets stuck in a wall or something) and probably wiping.

Flopping from named to named isn't really a great method for sivakians IMO, you can probably earn better cash and exp elsewhere.

I'd think that solo, you are always better with 2hs than 1hd/shield. I play a paladin, but basically the only time I ever use a 1hs is when I'm getting my ass handed to me or raiding. If I am having that large of a survivability problem, I could care less about the DPS I'm doing. XP and farming 9/10 times I go 2hs due to the DPS increase.

The rust code causes the named to spawn on top of whatever you kill or at its spawn point? Or does it increase the chance that a named spawns next spawn time? Is there a way to tell what zones have rust code? I'm curious if I should avoid rust code zones if the named spawn rates are tuned down so that full groups would do better than duos due to the number of kills.

Any suggestions on a better place(s) to farm cash\BoE gear than FR? I was also thinking about going to places like Kaesora, BQ, and OG. I'm just more familiar with FR and I know the vendor cash value is higher on these items if I can't use/sell them.

Does Veil transfer hate generated during its duration or hate already generated by your group?

Rust code has a chance of spawning the named at it's normal spawn location, right when you kill the trash mob. The named can spawn whether or not the placeholder was alive too.

OG is probably a better option, depends on how geared your guys are though. Clockworks are generally the best cash option and you can also clear Razor Lotus and other plant nameds in between spawns, or some Sproutari depending on the SKs stats.

None, but your Veil line of spells puts a buff on everyone in your group which transfers some of their aggro to you. Very handy in a pinch.

Wrong, Sk get two pbaoe spells, but only one that does damage. Wave of Enfeeblement at level 30, and Word of Spirit at level 49. Word of Spirit is the ae damage spell being mentioned for helping hold aggro on multi-pulls. You shouldn't need to use veils while 2-boxxing.
And yes, as stated, a 2H for the dps increase. Sword and board will likely make for very slow kills, and if you can't duo it while using your 2H, then you are farming in the wrong place (or have an extremely weak 2h weapon).

Vortex of death is a almost a mana wash or the sk, but it does as for the cleric.

After specialization and MC, vortex will cost 150-200 mana, and return 300. Not as nice as I'd imagined, but its 300 extra mana on the cleric. I guess thats not amazing duo, its an amazing spell for groups/raids though.
