I used to run a SoD Necromancer class specific Forum on a webspace that was leased by one of my coworkers. We had a decent size and constantly growing userbase there. Something happened with that host and we lost everything, including some really really good information regarding the Shards of Dalaya Necromancer class. I've recently started playing again on the server, and have my own web space, so  I figured I'd get the forums going again. Feel free to stop by and let me know what you think.

Well, i just have the same comment as with any other class specific websites.... (or actually, forums)

Why would they go trough the trouble of going over there if they can just as well post there questions and discussions in here?
 
well thats an option, but its nice to have everything condensed into one location for a specific class... Example, I have a thread on the class site forums regarding Recovery Gear, which is very beneficial to the Necro class.. Sure, I could go search out Recovery Gear on the Wiki, but then youve got to go and look over items that are MNK/BST only, Plate Only, etc.. Ive got it sorted on the class site forums to ONLY include items that a Necro can wear.. much easier for someone looking for gear specific to the class... We had stuff like that before on the old boards, and I just want to get that back... it was just a collection of information that was very beneficial to me at the time, and I'm sure to alot of the other growing Necros on the server...

Another example... I have setup a board thats dedicated to Hunting Grounds to discuss experience zones... sure theres a Leveling guide on the Wiki, but thats one or 2 peoples opinion about places to hunt. W/o adding a ton of Threads here with the "Where do I go at X level?" and getting input from other all the other classes, who may be able to solo zone A at lvl X yet have trouble with Zone B at lvl X, we can gather input specifically from the core of Necromancers on the server about where, why, and how they soloed X zone, X Mob, with X spelll sets, etc...

In a nutshell, its an option to have the common stuff related to ONLY the Necro class, w/o have to sift thru a ton of threads regarding lesser classes such as Droods ;) <-- Friendly Stab :toot:
 
You should probably make all the forums publically viewable. Unless you register it looks like there's nothing there.
 
Also, i never really liked when such sites are literally nothing more then just a forum. And then when you just see 2 public forums, having to register for yet another forum, etc etc... it's all so much trouble. not to mention that on that forum, ppl will have to search for information just like on a wiki or a regular website... and phpbb search functionality is horror :tinfoil:

Fixed this, I was trying to eliminate the problem we had on the old forum where Guests would post and then realize that they werent logged in, and then post again saying "Oops, ^ that was me" and whatnot..." fixed permissions to make boards viewable by Guests, but only registered users to be able to post..

again, much less to weed thru than this board.. and again this is an option for users who may want comprehensive info on the Necro class only.. I'm not breaking any arms forcing people to use my site lol.. I have nothing to gain other than knowledge as well as sharing the weatlh of knowledge
 
It's a good idea Kaarsk. It'll be useful for people looking for class specific information. I agree with you on the wiki. Sometimes it's overload if you're trying to narrow things down to a particular class. I don't play my necro any more these days, but I still think the site is a great idea.

Also limiting certain forums as viewable only to registered members makes sense to me. If people can't take the time to register to show you how much the board is being used, then what should they expect?

And seriously...the "trouble" to register on a phpbb board is so miniscule. It takes literally 30 seconds or less to complete.

Pertinent information on the forum can be sticked or made as an announcement. There will be less to search through as far as class specific sites go.
 
glad some of you share my sentiments... its a work in progress and will be constantly evolving into more that just the forum this time around..
 
I am not sure if copy and paste the hunting guide will do any good, the advantage of using wiki is everyone is able to make updates to it.

First, only you can update your hunting guide
Second, when someone updated the hunting guide on wiki, "necro realm" will always have a delay before the new info is copied over, I am not sure if anyone will want old info.

I must say the necro realm have nicer graphic then wiki thou.

To improve the realm, you will need to add more origin information in it..

But then, it go back to original question, why not edit it in wiki instead if you are providing more info..

It would be alot more helpful if it is a web site and not forum (differcult to section)
 
A forum is easier for the average user to contribute content to. My guess is those user submissions will then be compiled into posts by Kaarsk or themselves stickied so people find relevant information easily.

A wiki is great...don't get me wrong. But for something like highlighting content/tips/gear for a single class, a forum will work fine.

So do you want him to add the content or do you want the users to add it?
 
It's always nice to have different ways of getting information.

I would think the intended difference between using the Wiki and hanging out at the Necro Realm would be the community feeling. I agree that the Wiki is a great way of getting information, and it should never stop being updated regardless of how many new sites open up. But the Wiki is just that, a place to get information. There is no real community feeling to it. It's a giant library with various information on tons of subjects.

I would think the Necro Realm is intended to be a place where you can get that same information (more then likely from the Wiki itself) while also having a place for fellow Necromancer's to come and hang out. We can share fun stories or just complain about something Necro related :). Or atleast those of us who like to sneak around on different message boards throughout the workday.
