Shadowdale CoI Quests

So I accidentally started To Play in the Forest with Rinbo Strongfoot in shadowdale while I was still in the middle of his Study the Locals quest and then proceeded to screw up on To Play in the Forest. Which means, as far as I can tell, that I can now finish neither of his quests. I assume there's no way to reset these, but will this interfere with my CoI faction progress? Will I not be able to make the next rank of Junior Researcher even if I finish the other shadowdale quests?
 
The CoI quests (and the others i'm sure) were made so you can pass on a few quests depending on their worth
