I logged that near the death of a cave horror and was really wondering WHY they were dropping quest items that mobs in their 10-20's drop? Why are mobs that lvl 65s fight and kill drop these things? "[Mon Oct 31 01:28:33 2005] -- Taine has looted a Ancient Sleeves Mold.--"

Was maybe hoping for a small loot change for mobs at these levels. Seems rather pointless for quest items like this to drop of such high leveled mobs. Thinking more of the lines of dropping things like Lavastones, Midnight Pearls and those types of quest gem drops should be dropping in places such as Lasanth.

Consider those WFC quest drops sell for 5-15pp they're fine. Lasanth and the surrounding zones are not in relation to possible dragon/ giant quest armor and gems. Yeah, I don' t know why MieC is but whatever. The mutants uncommonly drop mid-level gear like the ones in Dreadfang Spire's gnolls.

Well the only thing I have a problem with is, why they are dropping those things at such a high level and not something possibly a little better. The armor drops are "ok" at best, would rather prefer drops from dreadfang instead though. That's besides the point.

A good thing you brought up the thing about them not being anywhere associated with dragons/giants because it actually makes sense, but I was just throwing out an idea of possibly an "upgrade" in droppable loot there (along the lines of a higher quest drop or some more small vendor trash)

The minotaurs in Lasanth can drop spells you know :) Ofcourse they are a bit harder then the mobs in the caves (spiders excepted).

I've also found it odd to wind up with mid to late 20s mob loot on mobs geared toward the 50s and 60s. You found the same thing on some of the golems in and around Akheva when it was still up.

I can think of a couple of possible reasons for this. The first would simply be a mistake in the loot table. Could be, but that's not necessarily the explanation. Next, there's the possibility of variety: mixing things up a little when it comes to loot drops. Personally, I'm not too interested in a bunch of shitty no drop stuff that would rot in 95% of the groups that xp there (much like Cmal1, where all but a select few pieces nearly always rot). So I'd say that possibility can't be ruled out.

The other possibility is, as Darlene suggested, that they're in to provide you with a little money. Something to sell.

Of course, that begs the question "why not put in gems ranging from pearls to opals, so we can sell them for 5 to 15pp?" It might well be that the devs want to put in some lower level gear that's going to get picked up in reasonably large quantities. It'll stimulate the economy a little bit, and spread a lot more of the WFC quest gear around than would result from just a few drops in FR and similar zones. I can guarantee you I'm not the only one who bought a decent number of the components for my armor from vendors and/or high levels back when I was in my low 20s.

So yeah... while it could be a mistake, it doesn't seem unreasonable to suppose that those drops are deliberate.

If they are a mistake, I'd love to get a mistaken Husrag FT3 belt off of, say, a gnoll pup. /hint hint!

That's what I'm trying to say. If crap loot drops off of high level mobs such as these, people won't bother to even pick them up to waste a slot in their inventory for a spot for, let's see, a fire emerald ring that normally drops off those hand mobs. It just doesn't seem right that these should be dropping here still.

I'm also not trying to say that ALL high level mobs should be dropping uber loot that can vendor well, but just a replacement of some kind for the lvl 10-20 quest drops :\. I also don't know if Lasanth is the only zone with things like this, so it could possibly be unintentional (sort of like how a mob in mielecha is supposed to be dropping 1 thing for a newbie sk quest, but isn't because it's dropping the wrong thing). So that could also be a possibility like Hasritt has just stated.

For my part, I carry around enough bags and bank often enough that I don't run into problems with loot slots (dual clienting helps with that, too). If it's not too heavy, I'll take it and either sell it or give it to some lowbie in Newport. In the case of wyvernfang pieces, I'll take them and throw them in the bank. It doesn't take more than one bag to hold all the pieces, and if I ever bother to go get a vendor somewhere I'll be able to throw them on. Besides, who knows when I'll either find a newbie I like (Balthor, for instance) and give them a set of stuff (have done so a couple times), or decide to sell a bit to someone auctioning for it.

Also, as Elitra would no doubt point out here, the mobs in question are a cinch to kill. A part of what goes into deciding loot tables is area difficulty. The hands and terrors in Lasanth are, to say the least, not difficult. I'd say their loot is more than decent for how simple the area is =P

They may not be difficult, but they still manage to kill me, I'm so gimp :(.

Anyway, really what I'd like to see is the quest pieces dropping from things that could be killed by the levels the armor is good for. When I was leveling Luciola, I always bought my few pieces / got them from higher levels. The molds are common enough that I got a few, but I never saw any chain links. I would always ask around as to where they dropped and try to go there to kill stuff, but people either didn't know or had wrong information. Also with the low cost of the materials, I think alot of people just sell them to a merchant cause it's easier and you get cash right away. I know I for one hate to /auction low selling items, but that may just be me.

now that is a good idea.

i was thinking the other day of writing a post to suggest some kind of quest implimentation for higher levels. unless you're uber-guilded (and... i really don't want to be raiding every night like i was in eq...), it's hard to get decent gear unless you're farming for pp. there should be some kind of quest gear for levels 50ish that isn't raid loot but better than all the quest gear that i'm still wearing from level 20 : oX

Angeliqua, there are the Dragon/Giant armor that's pretty good in the 50s which is quested. Without going on a raid the molds are semi rare, but I'm pretty sure Siren's Grotto has a chance to drop them and you can do SG in the mid 50s with a group. Obviously SK and DHK are the best place to get armor drops, but the mobs in those zones are harder to do with one group. Also rats in Dragon Necropolis can drop molds and I'd say maybe a group in the high 50s-low 60s could do them (I've only ever been to that camp with a bunch of 63+ guildies) The molds are rare, but they can deffinately drop.

Well, we can remove them if you'd like.

:(. . .Ok, I'll stop complaining

Edit: Cause BBCode hates me. . .

All mobs (except maybe lost ones) in DN can drop them. They're also found in SG, and I think WW. As Luci said, SK and DHK are the best places and also a bit hard for 1 group in the lower 50s. You could probably do the Faentharc side of SK and the Arena in the late 50s if you have a good group, and that's an excellent source of armor.

Of course, you can also follow around a DHK group if you're non kos and see if you can loot the rots. The groups I've been in have had probably full sets of leather, chain and silk rot (still no plate arms though, grrr).

SG is the suck. :( (tangleweed is the only thing that's good about that zone)

i'm guessing the drop rates (if a single group was to do it) are rare enough that i'd be 65 before getting a few of them.

i really agree with removing them, sorta like having them drop water all the time... after awhile its like "wtf I have 20 stacks of something that is useless in such quanities".
but... /hidecorpse all beittil =P

I was too lazy to make a new loot table that drops tentacles/barbed tentacles so I used one from other mobs that drop these.

There's your reason.

zone out to ww in sg will drop every piece but bp and MAYBE legs i cant remember on the legs, it was so long ago. But i got the majority of my armor doing a few lvls in my upper40s and low 50s in sg.

If you go deeper into sg i believe you can get bps and legs.

Also the armor drops in kedge too :)
