Screamstrike, Baton of the Forlorn

Any chance that Ranger could be added to this fine 1h weapon?  It is currently usable by war/rog/mnk/bst only.

There are many upgrades to choose from of the 2h variety such as MotG stick, Xavara, the Pike from CoD, mirror 2hs and the 2 from IP but 1hers pretty much cap once you reach PoAir.

There are currently no significant upgrades of the one handed variety for rangers above PoAir with the exception of the EXTREMELY difficult to get baton from CMal4.  Significant being defined as an increase in base dmg or a decrease in delay with the other factor remaining constant.  Sultan in PoAir drops a 16/20, another 16/20 drops in Sepulcher, mirror golems in Prison drop a 16/20 (with a non-DD proc), CoD offers a 16 +1 fire/21 and Yashira has a 12/15 offhand-only (equivalent to 16/20) with a non-DD proc.  The only differences between these 5 weapons are the worn stats, which provide miniscule benefit to DPS, and the amount/resist-check of the proc dmg which comprises a very small % of total DPS.  Given the HUGE variation in difficulty between PoAir and IP, it seems logical that somewhere along the way there should be an upgrade available in 1h dps weapons that are ranger usable.

We've missed your posts.

I agree with you.

Though, I will admit rangers get a ton of items in IP, including access to two 2handers, whereas monks and beastlords only get access to one, and this item sort of balances that fact out.

I have to disagree on this one, I think it was pretty apparent that ranger and bard were left off of this item. As stated by Rab, rangers get quite a selection of IP items already in slots where some of the classes on this item don't. I mean, I could use your same logic for arms... being that the best set of usable arms for a monk *or* a beastlord is currently combine, but I realize that Ulaz arms weren't made for monks, so I haven't requested that monk be put on them. There are gear gaps in all levels of raiding and they pretty much always get filled even if you have to wait until the next tier of raiding to fill that gap.

But, there is a huge difference in the "value" of a typical armor upgrade vs a weapon upgrade, especially for a DPS melee class.  As far as the abundance of items that are ranger usable dropping in IP, I agree that there are a LOT of them.  But just because a class CAN use an item doesn't automatically mean that it is a "good" choice.  Also, a lot of those items are ranger usable due to rangers being a hybrid class.  If you count everything, I would guess that bsts, pallies and sk (the other hybrids) have almost as many items flagged as usable.

If rangers are not destined to be included on this item then it would seem that the 16/20 SoC from Sepulcher or the 16 +1/21 from CoD should be tweaked a bit.  Not being able to improve your 1h melee DPS after PoAir is pretty sad.

i am not so sure about sotmrazer being the final weapon choice for a ranger in the end game, i think someone forgot to mention splitblade of darkness...16/21 good stats and a 180dd=good dps....or i ama moron...take your pick

I have a Splitblade that I generally wield primary. While it does have a better DD proc, the ratio is actually a tad worse than Stormrazor: 16/20 (razor) vs 16 +1/21 (splitblade). The weapons are so close in terms of melee dps as to be virtually identical. I use the Splitblade because it has better worn stats, not because it is better DPS.
