Sample Pickup Raid Loot Rules Thread

Tarutao

Staff Emeritus
The purpose of this thread is to give an example of a good thread for a Pickup Raid in which the raid leader is claiming any coin/items for anyone in the raid.

The rules thread for the Pickup Raid must be posted before engaging in the raid, but may be done after the raid reaches its destination zone/wing in order to get raid claim. Posts should *not* be edited, but rather a reply made if one needs to be made. Forum posts are timestamped, so you don't need to include the time/day of your raid in your post, but make sure it's done before you start the raid. (Exception: If the raid is engaged by a mob through no fault of the raid, like in the case of a malicious training, the raid loot rules can be posted immediately after the raid defends itself from attack. Don't try to abuse this exception.)

As raid leader, post the loot distribution rules for your PuG, announce to the raid that they've been posted, and give your raid a moment to review them before engaging any mobs/trash for the raid.

Be clear in your loot rules, and be thorough. Any contested ambiguity is going to be a judgment call for a GM to make, and the tendency will be to rule in favor of the party that did not draft the rules (read: not the raid leader).

--------------------

The following are the rules for loot distribution for ((Tarutao))'s pickup raid on ((Master of the Gates)) in ((Prison of Admyrrza)):

All coin will be looted by Tarutao. All droppable items except ((Extremely Difficult Treasure Map)) will be looted by Tarutao and vendored at the end of the raid. The money gained from these items will be added to and included with the coin loot. The total amount will be awarded to the winner of a "/random 1000" done at the conclusion of the raid by all interested characters that were awarded no items.

The item ((Shimmering Pearl Key)) is claimed for ((Cless)).

Any ((Extremely Difficult Treasure Map))s are claimed for ((Tarutao)).

If 2 ((Sun-Forged Focusing Ruby))s drop, one of them is claimed for ((Bryenia)).

All other [NO DROP] items dropped from ((trash during the clear)) and ((Master of the Gates)) will be distributed via the default method: "every character in the raid that wishes to loot an item has the right to a equal random chance at the loot, and this random chance is to be done with /random within an audible distance of the corpse in question in a reasonable time frame allowing for resurrections but not for corpse rotting".

In the case I've missed anything, we will resort to the default method as per the Raid Rules.

Hmm... in the spirit of "thanks for taking the lead and doing this first, Aradyn", I think I'll do a second example. Note that this will be a fairly normal looking example since most pug leaders nowadays claim 1 item and traditionally, coin/droppables went to the raid leader (though they have to be claimed also nowadays).

PoNightmare raid:

All coin and droppable items are claimed by Aradyn.

The item "Shadow Step" is claimed by Aradyn.

All other [NO DROP] items (including relic spells and artifact components) will be randomed off to the class that can use them, as is default.

what if there is (for example), an ALL/ALL item but with insane ac, damage reduction, riposte, etc. an item which is clearly a tank item.
before we start, is it possible to say that the all/all(99% tank) item with be randomed between just the tanks. then ask the raid if anyone objects, if they do please post on the forums at that time. if no objections it's fair game ???

clearly just for the sake of argument. there are items like that for most different classes

If you want to say that "if item XXXX drops, it will be randomed amongst only warriors, paladins, shadowknights unless nobody of those classes wants it", you can. They're your loot rules. You just have to make them.

Stupid question: can a raid leader post rules along the lines of "I will decide who can roll on an item on a case by case basis", without posting specifics ahead of time?

Yes. They can.

Don't be surprised if people say "screw that, I'm not going on your raid".

If you wait until the raid gets into the zone to let people know you're retaining the right to distribute every item as you see fit as each item drops, don't be surprised if people just leave.
