Rogues and soloability

Greetings,

Lately, I've been wanting to make a rogue, but one thing has been keeping me back. I've never played one in EQL, and I'm not sure how well they can solo.

I'm not looking to solo all the time, but I'd like to be able to do so when I'm not able to find a group, and I'm wondering if rogues are able to do that. If they can't, well, I'll just make a chanter or something :)

So could anyone tell me if rogues can solo to an extent at mid-level?

Thanks in advance.

Wanelo my rogue below (Byrjun) and keep in mind I'd be lucky to solo a dark blue. Rogues are the absolute poorest solo class. Wiz once said he may make light blues give more experience, and I'm not sure if he's going to go through with that.

I see,

Well...I guess I'll just make a chanter then :)

Thanks for the information.

(edit) I'll probably make a rogue alt one of these days :p

yea rogues are basically a group class. their defense skills are horrible and tend to take a lot of damage really fast... making it hard to solo even dark blues as you said. They are a lot of fun to play in group settings though, dish out plenty of DPS... jus careful of taking that aggro =)

Are you aware of the changes to charm? Enchanters can solo, but not nearly as well as in live, and from what it sounds they have a much harder time of it at the high end since all mobs 58+ (I think?) summon. As far as I can tell, we're not quite as good at assassinating nameds but we can still do it--the charmed pet is weaker and so has a harder time reaching above its level to kill a named, but on the other hand charm lasts longer on average so it's unlikely to break mid-fight. Charming for regular xp seems much more difficult and costly due to the charmed pet being weakened very significantly. Instead of needing a new pet every once and a while, you need a new one every 1-2 mobs, and your old pet comes back at full health when you switch.

That's not to say its impossible, mind you. You can still charm solo for a decent profit if you're smart about it. I'm just trying to explain the differences from live. At my level, I can beat the HGs around for money quite well, but only if I'm willing to eat a few deaths now and again and come out without much XP.

I believe this change went in awhile back. I've been making very decent experience killing light-blues as a monk since the change. Of course, you have to actually be solo (not be grouped or gaining outside assistance) to notice this increase.

Rogues can be very rewarding if you stick it out with them, much like warriors. I'd rank rogues #1 on my list of most desireable classes in the end game.

I had a high end Rogue on Live, it was a struggle getting there, but god I loved that character. Also had a high-end Warrior, who didn't seem quite as fun.

Gah, now I'm torned on what to really make for a character :p

I guess I could make a rogue, since I like the style more than chanters', and if they've been nerfed, then that's another reason for me to make a rogue.

Cue sp4mm in 5...4...3...2...

You will be able to solo in between groups without dying. Sure it will be horrible exp, but at least its something. As long as your constantly looking for a group, and soloing on the side, you should progress quite nicely.

If you do try to solo, make sure these dark blues are at the lower level range of dark blue.. Say if your lvl 35.. dont go after lvl 34 mobs... You'll probably end up with 15-20% HP left or lower, but bind wound goes to 100% so keep med kits handy.

Often times if your quick enough, and get the positioning/timing down just right, you can run towards the mob, then immediately back up and land a backstab on the turned mob. So that helps soloing too.

At level 65 and without any avoidance AA's, I can solo light blues easily. And if Im buffed (or find a low level dark blue) I can solo those as well.. It's just a pain bandaging for 5 minutes, then spending another 5 minutes looking for a single pull.

Id say go make your rogue. It's a fun class. Lots of skills to work when your bored and cant group too, or tons of places you can explore. There's always something to do as a rogue.

Quit my rogue at 46. It was more fun playing a tank. It's no fun having crap ability to solo just so you can enjoy the 5% of the game later on. Not for me anyway. In groups, they're great, but they are the gimpiest of gimps when soloing.

Hell I solo better with my cleric...

I still say rogues shoulda got a 1 time a day FD. Seems like a roguish trait. Playing dead. Would have helped their survivability. :)

No I'm not asking for anything to change either since I already quit. In EQL the only way I was soloing past level 40 was with poisons. Even then it was tough...and expensive...and slooooow.
