Rogue Sneak Attack. How exactly does it work?

Higher chance to hit? Higher chance to crit?

More damage? Normal Damage? (If successful)

The only thing I've witnessed for a long time now is, an emote, dmg done seems not to be outside the norm when it comes to a backstab (so nothing special), and you have to be hidden before a battle starts and you have to get off a successful backstab (behind the mob) to see the emote.

Basically all I see is a cool emote saying you preformed a sneak attack, nothing else. So, is that all a sneak attack is?

From 9/18/2012 patch notes-

Sneak Attack: when a rogue has no aggro, sneaks up on a target, and opens with a Backstab, that Backstab is flagged as a Sneak Attack. Sneak Attacks cannot miss, deal 25% bonus damage, give a nifty message, and generate only 1 point of aggro.

No idea if they've been changed at all since then though.

Thank you. I hate to say it...but it's rare. I am very positive I've 'missed' a sneak attack. Meaning, no aggro, sneaks, opens with backstab and failed to hit. All joking aside.

And, that 25% bonus is a load of crap imo ONLY! I don't see it hitting for anything other than what I normally see....wait, going to not untype what I just wrote. My other post: Backstabs have a HUGE range when it comes to dmg. Never mind.... :(

It should be a 200% increase. Sneak attacks are CRAZY awesome in D&D. Ok....ok, enough of that.

Obviously, the issue is really that backstabs should have a much tighter damage range than they have now.

And a better hit chance...instead of watching for an emote. Honestly that emote should be removed and the hit chance raised to almost never fail.

Why?

Because you are a Rogue. A skilled assassin who specializes in attacking from a vulnerable area or side. Whether it's an initial attack from the shadows or constant attack from a spot the enemy can't/has trouble see(ing) you. The specialization for this type of class needs to be specifically recognized for this.

Let me hit a quick downfall to what I said to:

In light of being able to do awesome dmg, of course aggro is a major player and that is where the skill of the player should be tested. Manage aggro.....

Okay, how they work is pretty simple. You have to be in backstab range (duh), but sneaking/hiding behind mob. Then you do get a huge one hit wonder (usually about the same as a crit or insidious stab). If the mob moves, then you're gonna miss. They do work. Honest. And my rogue is fail, and I notice it.
