Rogue pick pocket not going up

I trained it at lvl 7 and it hasn't gone up a single point. All the mobs I've attempted on are db/white con. I always get the message that I've been caught

It doesn't skill up when caught. Then you can't try it again on that mob once caught.

You have to make sure auto attack is off and hide doesn't fail first, iirc.

Do it on green cons, sneak and stand behind them, dont bother hiding afaik it doesnt affect your chance of success. Takes forever

Go out to somewhere with greens, especially ones that dont con kos (i.e. beetles, bats iirc). You don't have to sneak or hide as long as they dont con kos. For example, as a wood elf rogue, i went to centaur hills and picked wolf pockets. They only caught me every few tries, and only attacked when they caught me (wood elves are friendly to animals). Make sure you kill them after they have nothing to steal, as that will encourage new spawn that has something to steal. Get it to 50 for the MQ then forget it even exists.

Best way to level it up, imo, is be an XP group's ML and do it on every mob =D

It really is an awesome skill, especially when you get diamonds and black sapphires while backstabbing.

You have to sneak because regardless of what they con it increases your success chance dramatically.

Tmaps are the best loot noone knows your taking

This is bad advice, there are quests in which rogues have to have pickpocket maxed to get certain items for certain things including non rogue quests. Do not listen to that advice.

Also I really suggest you change your bind point to somewhere with no guards.

I know this is a bit old but I find the same problem, the ability does not work, so if someone can give me a solution.

I must say that I tested with mobs, green, lb, blue, white, yellow and red, and the only ones that have worked for me are sometimes green, but the skill level does not rise.

Thinking it was just bad, went up 3 points manually, so now I have a level 10, but still not work on their own.

That has to be used while not attacking.

Then I want to know I'm doing wrong.

Thanks.

I played a rogue on live for 9 years and stealing was a fun thing for my rogue. I find it depressing here. I use to do it on every mob and I'm 65. My stealing always fails and skill never raises. If u have to go do it on green mobs to get it to raise that needs to be changed. That is like having a healer just heal green players to get their healing skill up.

Disclaimer: Based on personal experience, and there isn't much. My Rogue at lvl 64 has a PP skill of 89.

Ok, first, bind yourself somewhere safe. Rogue guild is a good option (learn the sewers if you're in Newport) but otherwise anywhere without guards is a good call as mentioned above.

Stand behind your target. (I skilled up on Green. I don't have comment on whether this is necessary.)

Use the Sneak skill. You will get an emote for fail or success. Pay attention to this - you need a success to proceed.

Fail: You are as quiet as a herd of running elephants.
Success: You are as quiet as a cat stalking its pray.

Use the Pick Pocket skill.

Success will either get you an item OR a message that your target doesn't have anything to steal.

Fail and you will generate heat (if you are in town.) Once you've failed, you can't try to pickpocket that same target again for a while.

Worth checking out items to provide +Skill to Sneak and Pick Pocket while you're skilling them. You can get low level versions by doing quests (appropriate for level 1 - 5) in Greater Faydark, the North Newport guild quests (super suggested!!), or as random drops from cecuvian's in Warpstone (which most people don't like doing, but you can also get a variety of quest items off of these dudes, so worth considering!)

Thanks Rari, what happened was that I dont using the sneak just before the pick pocket.

That was the fail.
