It seems like it would be a lot of fun (and has some strong support in ooc) if there were some massive serverwide quest to retake some part of Freeport, if only during the day (so that questing stuff might still be done, but during the night).
Figures listed are just examples (EXAMPLES):
What if 40% of the server's population needed to complete a main quest-style thing. And then of those who completed it, several raids needed to be done (only admitting those who had completed some portion, or all of, the quest). Once the process of reclaiming Freeport reached a certain point, NFP could be usable during the day, but undead still took it over at night (Thank's Ghaellie for the nighttime idea).
In fact, East Freeport and parts of the Plaguelands could still be left alone, but possibly made a little higher level so people could still do their necessary questing. Once the serverwide quest was complete (could take months or longer), NFP could be usable 24/7 as a city zone (possibly taking a lot of the strain off of Athica, which was never able to support the load of characters it has come to expect), EPL could be usable during the day, but WPL could be left as it is until something similar was done for King's Pass and HHK
And once the serverwide quest was completed, NFP could become a moderately tiered raid zone that reflected the unliberated parts of Freeport. A lot of very fun and involving lore could be created surrounding this idea.
I realize that this is just a rough draft and a lot needs to be put into it before it's viable, but I haven't talked to anyone who didn't think some variation of this idea was a bad one.
And I have also been told that something in the same ballpark as this idea has been kicked around a little - though apparently very different than this, but that implementation is a major hindrance. If there's anything I can do to help (I can't code, but I would be happy to storyboard the lore), I would be more than willing to.
In my years with SoD, I haven't seen anything like this and it seems like a really fun and fresh way to involve people beyond grinding tomes and farming cash. Suggestions and beer welcome.
