I know i am still a newbie on WR... but i recently thought of a great idea.... you know how people in EQ live create known spells with research items... well as far as i know there isnt research in WR.... but wouldnt it be neat if we could create our own spells... like for example...

in the way of a DoT that LTs
words of (insert words here) would add X damage,
words of (insert words here) would make that X damage a LT
and words of (insert words here) would make it a DoT for X seconds

or in the way of a Buff
(insert item here) would add X HP
(insert item here) would add X AC
(inesrt item here) would add X STR

and the harder the spell that is created would make it more difficult to create....

i know there is probably no way that this could be implemented because it would be difficult.... but i just thought it was a neat idea that i would share...

If it's possible to add elements to a spell set, it's possible :p

Come on guys, you would only have to add x!/(2(x-2)!) + x!/(3!(x-3)!) + x!/(4!(x-4)!) + x!/(5!(x-5)!) + x!/(6!(x-6)!) spells to the database, where x is the number of research components!

From what i gather, the database is not updatable on the fly.meaning the server would have to come down every ime someoen created a new spell.

I'm pretty sure its possible to do this, if we really wanted it to, but it would take a overhaul of a large chunk of code, and therefore probably won't happen. Furthermore, even if we could do it, the question would be if we should.

You would have to create every possible combination of research pages before-hand accounting for 2-page, 3-page, 4-page, 5-page, and 6-page combinations(pretty sure that research containers only had 6 slots?). The player wouldn't really be creating a new spell as much as he/she would be picking from a very very large list. It would be a time-consuming and relatively pointless task.

nope. You would just need custom spell 1 2 3 etc on the client and then map them on the server, imo. You can do a custom spell easily. The trick is doing custom spell NAMES.

I think you had a good idea in Spell 1, Spell 2, Spell 3 ...or you could expand further and go with Druid Spell 1, Mage Spell 1, etc...

but regardless of the implementation (even if someone was going to take the time and effort) - I think that other areas rightfully require the attention of those involved in ever improving WR.

Unless you set it up more as a quest / tradeskill with set "upgrades". Then everything would be set in code with no needed changes. But I think that this, once again, defeats the purpose.
