I think it's an awesome size.
As for research, no, there is no research. Also I don't recommend buying the 500 pp spells. They cost that much because they were dropped spells on Live. As for why you shouldn't buy them, you can get their upgraded versions off of players for about the same amount. I'm not sure how true this is for most spell casters, but for druids it's about right. Unless of course the spells are more rare.... and cost a lot. I know in my brother's druid's case, he bought both his 500 pp spells, and used them for all of a day before he got his newer ones.
