Some equipment, such as Hurngol's Flare and Slippers of Sparkling Ash, doubles as a light source when worn. Certain utility items, such as a Greater Lightstone, will do the same job even from a base inventory slot (that is, when not in a bag). As I upgraded my entire gear set from pre-Ikisith T8ish loot to my current set, all of my light source gear became obsolete, whereas not one piece of the new gear came with this feature. For a long while, I took to carrying around a GLS in one of my base inventory slots solely to serve this purpose, but this is impractical in most cases given that such a slot is almost certainly already spoken for either by an important clicky or by another bag, especially for a main looter.
Will the devs please consider assigning light source functionality to several more pieces of raid loot? Items with bright-sounding names like the Ring of Luminous Crystals could be one way to go. There are also weapons that already have a particle effect which common sense would suggest ought to be light sources, such as the Spire of Destruction (which happens to look like a gigantic torch in the first place!). Perhaps Spires class bracers would also be something to consider for this change, given that it would solve the problem across all classes at a certain tier.
My main purpose for requesting this is that staring at a computer monitor for hours on end is already a strain enough on the eyes, but when combined with ultra-low lighting in-game, the problem worsens. PCs and NPCs alike blend in with their surroundings varying degrees, name tags become harder to read at a glance, and in the darkest of zones, fights are reduced to dances between murky silhouettes overlaid with a hodgepodge of opaque spell particles. Upping the gamma setting is an option, yes, but this feature seems to be somewhat faulty (apparently it cannot be adjusted when in windowed mode), and come sunrise, the game will appear oversaturated in some areas and washed out in others. Simply put, playing in excessive darkness is no fun. Surely, other players must feel this way. (Guys and gals, chime in!)
Luminosity for the current client seems to be rendered client-side and only emanates from the player himself/herself; a raid full of lighted equipment would not mean the player would have to deal with 18 independent, mobile light sources, in case any had that fear.
For visual reference, the following are un-retouched pictures taken from similar perspective in the absence of an external (that is, zone-provided) light source. Bear in mind that my outfit consists of atrociously bright colors, whereas most players are seen sporting a darker look that would stand out much less in similar lighting.
