Refuge augs

Is there any way these augs can be returned when you deaug? If you accidentally put one of the elemental damage augs in the feet or hands slot, it still fits, but it renders the item unusable

I asked the very same question when they first appeared. The answer I got was that they poof on purpose, making them function as a plat sink.
