Bah. I finally got done picking 500 crops... only to find that I'm even more screwed now than I was before!
Basically, I had ally faction with citizens but was dubious to guards... However, I accidentally killed a slave in NBL, which caused my guard faction to drop to threatening. I thought I could live with it, but after getting squished by bounty hunter several times (having her see invis and summon without being damaged is overkill imo) I decided to seek redemption. So I went to Reconciliator Arya, paid an outrageous fine, and picked crops for longer than I care to remember. Then when I went back to Arya, I was horrified to see that my faction with both citizens and guards had been reset! This of course means that my Amulet of Newport has poofed, being faction required. Surely this is an oversight... paying a fine to the city and assisting with crop harvesting shouldn't make citizens make me less, should it?
Please don't make me farm bandits and gnolls again.
