Ranger Hawk pet AA

How about an AA that summons a hawk(or some other pet) that increases archery accuracy? Make it like 9 or 15 AAs, level 65 required.

Not sure how a hawk would improve accuracy from a RP perspective. Also, I dont know of any hawks that are global models....there could be some however. I guess if you could though, it seems like they should increase tracking range? Well...that could be useless.... anyways, find out if there is a global model hawk first.

RP of a hawk is suiting as a ranger, and giving archery accuracy isn't that bad RP wise either. The old "hawk eyes" expression. For example, wizard pets giving the wizard more mana regen, healing, casting a slow spell, doesn't seem that RPish as well, especially if you campare it to a hawk. In D&D rangers get a forest companion so I wouldn't see this as a bad thing, although, what AA would you take away?

Looking through the abilities (PoP) it seems that 'pinning shot' is rather useless....increasing tracking range....

It seems like one of those situational raid AAs. I went and read it on here, and then ingame, and it stuns the target now. It seems like the most likely candidate for being replaced though. Either that, or one of the healing AAs. I don't know of a single ranger that would put AAs in that until they're running out of things to add on to. If you do, speak up.

Increasing tracking range would be useless, since only a certain number of mobs can be listed at once. Since track starts with the lowest level mobs and works higher, many of the nameds in very populated zones can't be tracked but can be up.

and it stuns the target now

What is the stun deal with raid mobs? I can't remember but I heard that chanters can't stun them now, and a huge amount are immune to stun. I think pallys have the stun focus on raid mobs, does this AA work on them too?

I cant even find regular exp mobs that are stunnable these days....either its immune to charm, or immune to stun, or immune to root. YUCK! I know that its 'balancing' but come on....stun is almost useless in the high end.

wtf are you talking about? pinning shot should be replaced? pinning shot is perfect, as it is. LOL, replacing pinning shot sounds like a VERY bad idea, imo. i would miss that aa :(

just curious: do you guys have that aa on one of your toons? did you try it, before asking to replace it? i bought that aa quite a while ago and just the thought of removing it makes me LOL. the only useless (and therefore replaceable) aa i could think of would be foresight.

also, i'm not too sure what to think about that hawk pet. sure, having a pet as a ranger would be incredibly cool, but i never really liked the idea. i prefer the idea by wiz (when the server was discussing suggestions about aas in ooc a while ago), to give us rangers some kind of deployable trap as a new aa skill.

Pinning Shot 218
This ability provides you the chance of firing a shot that will halt a moving opponent, considerably decreasing his movement speed for a short while.

Does this work on raid targets and what is the refresh time? (I don't play ranger) :?

I think foresight would the best candidate for being replaced. Even though its a GUARANTEED dodge, it only works for the first attack of a round. The refresh rate is five second but still, it seems a bit pointless only dodging the first attack. Now if it dodged EVERY attack of a round of that targeted mob, then I would consider it useful.

the only reason why i mentioned foresight as a useless aa is because i was told it is doesn't work. i must admit that i did not buy and test it myself yet.

With the sickening abundance of +% Archery mods available & the accuracy increasing style, an AA that increases archery accuracy will be pretty redundant...

Hmm....what about a hawk pet that increases foraging skill? Not too many items like that around :) Replace one useless AA with another useless AA :D

Maybe I just want a hawk pet ¬_¬

about hawks and familiars

As for the hawk pet, I really don't see what a hawk could do to help anyone ? maybe I'm missing something.

As for the wizards familiar helping the wizard, this is not a stretch of the imagination at all. The term comes from use in the bible denoteing sorcerors or necromancers that called forth spirits of the dead to either posess them or help them in some way. Having a demonic possesion on the wizard that buffs the wizard isn't that much of a stretch of the imagination.

Having a hawk that helps with archery seems odd to say the least.

I really like the idea of rangers haveing a hawk pet though. Maybe the pet could decrease the attack rating or ac rating of one mob in melee with the ranger (or one mob that the ranger sends the pet after). This would be like the hawk attacking the mob and distracting it or something, but not doing any real damage.

Yeah, a pet hawk would be cool - like Spirit in GI Joe. Actually, that might have been an eagle. And I think technically Spirit was a shaman, not a ranger.
Forget I mentioned it.

If increased accuracy is out of the question (theres a total of 56% between 5 items that I know of), perhaps maybe an AA (with a hawk pet, of course) that gives a % chance to score a double hit (as in 2 arrows), in 3 steps of increasing %, lets say a billion, two billion, and fifty billion! haha jk maybe 2, 5, 10% for 3, 6, 9 aa's. From a roleplay perspective maybe the second hit is really the hawk swooping down and clawing with its talons.

Or perhaps a non-combat related one: Make an Eagle pet instead of a hawk and give all the effects of Spirit of Eagle (self only: Movement increase, See Invis, Levitate, Infravison - maybe a sta regen effect too) whenever it is summoned. It can be immune to damage (AoE may take it out in one hit) or not if its easily castable. "But why SoE? we can cast it!" you may say, well how about making this castable indoors, and just be like a worn effect (so it wont take a spell slot and cant be dispelled). This way we'll have a cool hawk pet, it wont be overpowering (just convenient) so you dont have to change anything else, and it'll just be plain fun. Oh and from a RP perspective, the 'hawk eyes' for see invis and infravision, maybe the hawk grabs us and flies with us for the levitate and movement. 9 aa's single purchase would do the trick.

Oh and for a graphic... the only one i know of right now is a GRIFFON! That would work =)
