Ranger & Bard: tips?

So after doing Sk/Sham and Bst/ Cleric with a little Chanter to mix, and playing a Rouge pretty often i got the urge to try Bard because it seems like a completely different class. And then i was like, what do i wanna box with that. Oh yeah i need real good tracker. RANGER! Nothing like an odd box to spice it up.

So now i have a new little alt project, boxing a Bard/ Ranger. Of course i will balance out who gets hit and stuff, but i was just wondering in general which class makes the better tank. right from the off Ranger has taunt, but everyone and their granny knows why rangers are so good at gating. on the other hand bard wears plate.

Also any tips greatly appreciated. As i have learnt from my gimp sk and my awesomeish bst, levelling up all the melee skills is a must so i've bought loads of arrows and all that... Gear tips would be useful; is warpmetal worth getting or will they grow out of it quick? Also, any suggestions on a good bow?

Bards are better tank because of their plate, like you mentionned. But rangers are not far off behind from what i have seen.

A good bow is Crystalline because of resists, IMO.

As far as gear is concerned, i wouldnt bother gearing up both in terms of AC unless you have a lot of platinums.

Just get the ranger some good DPS gear and concentrate on getting your bard some good AC gear.
 
Ranger with good (+) gear is a better tank. Takes a lot to make a good bard tank, don't let the plate fool you, they are still just enchanters on the inside of it.

Though early on, like the first 30-40 levels at least, almost any class could be a tank.
 
Do yourself a favor and don't listen to him.

Like i said, Bards in raids are makes excellent AUX tanks, and if you compare even-geared bard/ ranger in term of raid Tiers, bards have superior AC.

Do yourself a favor and dont listen to him , rangers have an excellent stance for tanking that is amazing and helps make up for ac deficits. Granted they need alot of aas and gear to really to do it well.

Yeah you mean the stance that makes you lose offhand weapon ?

That's really relevant huh ? Losing half your DPS ( because in the first place you should be shooting ) just so ranger can outtank the Bard.

Seriously though like he said, unless you are planning to burn an obscene amount of plat ( or raid T8+ which is probably not your case ) , just let the bard tank. That way , Ranger DPS will be optimal and bard too.

Either way you will probably be kiting mobs around with bard and shooting with ranger.
 
I pretty much duo'd a ranger / rogue from 1 to 65 and then some and the ranger tanks fine. Either way it's easy enough to spread the damage out with root and heals from the ranger so it's all irrelevant on which tanks better when duoing.
 
Yeah, the ranger will have to do tanking for the most part now i have learnt how to kite, well, he shouldn't get hit but i pull with ranger and have the bard following playing his tunes on the mob.

Tis very new and fun for me as i have never kited before :3
 
I didnt think Toemo made that big of an impression on you in lasanth... he is a beast for his "level"... lol
 
Mr Bard is only level 10 right now anyway, no snare yet.

Toemo is damn hench, but i wanted my own track bot lol!
