Random Necro Observations (Warning: somewhat Rantish)

First let me clear the air on a few things. I love this server and the time taken both to maintain the actual server as well as come up with new content. i"m glad that Wiz and the associated staff has bothered to come up with an interesting world with a good solid back story. I also realize that there is likely going to be at best indifference, and at worst a condescending reply to the following. However even so I feel it should be put here for batting about(or shooting down, depending on how many holes you can find).

Now then ehre's a bit of info for those that don't know, or remember, me. I joined up in the summer of '05 and created a human necromancer as everything i had been told is that would have made a good solo class, and thus newb friendly. I had, as is my way, started pondering on a backstory for this character that would be compatible with the world at large. During this process I had come to the conclusion that the Cult of Entropy did not match my character's view of the world, and because of the guild at Oggok I had no reason to visit the newport sewers after i could start leveling in the warrens(keep in mind this is before the necro gild had any quests). Before my first, and rather lengthy, absense i had camped Rotbringer to the point of being KoS to the cult on account of my wanting to make my factioning fit my backstory(as i have stated earlier and elsewhere). Granted I was still KoS to Druid/Pally but at that point I figured it was a livable thing.

Fast Forward a year and my return to find the newport Cultists now had a quest line, there were pally initiate in newport actively hunting me, and the guild in Oggok was gone(leaving me without a source of spells short of somebody else going in and grabbing 'em for me). I get attacked by a pally initiate...newport guard SEES this happen, guess who he sides with? and no, not the guy just minding his own business medding up from a fresh gate out of heartland both to escape mobs I'd gotten a good lead on as well as bank a few things. Dear heavens no, lets not attack the sword swinging homicidal maniac that's pestering a random person, no lets HELP him do the killing(for the record, I did not take a faction hit with the guards, its just annoying that the guard beat the crap out of me when I was the one that had gotten attacked(and wasn't fighting back).

i'm well aware of Wiz's view of necromancy and so any arguments to get him to change his view. Its just that currently it is impossible ot advance, if you're new to the game, unless you align yourself with the cult of entropy. Not everyone that follows necromancy does it to serve gradesh. It doesn't matter if they're well meaning, but unbalanced, amoral where the disposition of bodies are concerned, willing to do whatever it takes to win in the war, or whatever. Jeric has advanced t othe point where he finds his spells at Erudine(honestly supprized that that spell vendor didn't get pulled when Oggok's was).

I really am contemplating just deleting this whole thing as I'm well aware that Wiz is quite busy and doesn't have time to interact with the unwashed masses save for perhaps high handed statements that tend to, at least in my eyes, come off as condescending that anyone dare question how he does things. I like this game(and i do plan on donating as soon as domestic troubles are fixed). I also realize that I stand a good chance at reprisal for my stance(especially given the 'this is our sandbox, not yours...' portion of the EULA). I could get into other gripes, fear being one of them, but those are rants for another section of the forum(not even sure if this is the right section for THIS bit of time wasting).

One question: how would your necromancer deal with this? Seems like he would have three options:

1) Deal with it and never buy another necromantic spell.
2) Pay others to retrieve them for him.
3) Do what was necessary to put him back on the good side of the CoE, whether his heart was in it or not.

I don't know if factions can be fixed by an admin, or if it is ever even considered, but considering that the only people affected are those who trashed their CoE faction, I wouldn't be surprised if we were left to our own devices on this one.

Granted, I know nothing of cult faction. Is there no way to raise cult of entropy faction?

If there is, suck it up and fix your faction.
If there isnt, that would be the point you may want to press...in much less words.

Nobody wants to read 5 paragraphs that could be summed up as one of the two statements below...

I fucked up cult of entropy faction and dont know how to fix it
or
I fucked up cult of entropy faction and there is no way to raise it, can this be looked into please.

My wifes necro had to do her spell shopping in grobb I beleive.

This should be in Suggestions and Requests though

i had opted for the 'have a friend buy my spells for me' option to get my spells fixed. Also I had INTENTIONALLY screwed my Entropy faction for roleplaying reasons. Its just annoying that both for spells and training necromancers pretty much have no option but to go either there or to grobb(I don't know why but the last time I went there I got killed even after getting past all the guards). i also want to mention that while that one toon isn't in line with the current seemingly forced view of how necros are to be played I like the cult quests, very in line with the whole 'spread entropy and disease' thing and gives a reward to make up for the fact that pretty much everywhere will try to kill you.

let me, again, make it clear, I munked up my factioning intentionally(this was before the big changes involving adding the main quest, Oggok going byebye, ect). Also as a related question is it even possible for a necro t obe nonkos to druids as currently I'm KoS to Entropy, Surefall, Hand of Life, and the Deepmaster(or whoever does heals in newport)

i approve this product and/or service

Frankly, paladin initiates are far too aggressive and any minor atmospheric benifit they provide isn't worth the amount of player-shitting-on they do. The perks for being evil are very few and very far between; certainly too rare to really justify the actual, gameplay disadvantage that the bloodthirsty initiates bring to the table. If they were part of a larger system, then sure, but as it stands they're sort of a bizarre inconvinience with no upside.

Also yeah this should be in S&R :toot:

I do suppose the counter-argument for the pally aggressiveness bit is that 'you're evil, you're supposed to be inconvenienced'. Trouble is I don't WANT to be tagged with the evil thing, I'm Neutral Good for cripe's sake! That should bloody count for something in the grand scheme of things, but no it apparently does nothing to help any alignment issues save for acting as a stranglehold on your actions. When I'm getting attacked there's really nothing I can do to shake the guy(see below for the argument against FDing out of it). Yet if I defend myself I get a faction hit. Granted the engine is old and resistant to change, but if I'm getting mobbed for no reason other than being in newport why am I to suffer a penalty for trying to stay alive? I didn't start the fight and I don't see the guards running to help me out(as in the above post, they charged to help the pally hand me a beatdown).

I'm going to third the move since this is turning from a discussion into a 'things that need fixing' thing.

While on the subject of things that need fixing Let me go into a little thing that's supposedly supposed to save your tail when everything else fails, your group's dead, pet's about to be sunk, and you're almost outta the blue sparkles.

Feign Death

I know that if there is any sort of lifetap you are still on the mob's hate list regardless, but this seems hit or miss. Ever since my return I've noticed FD failing more often than it actually doing what it's supposed to do. What's worse is by the time you realize its failed you're in a situation where you'd better hope to hell somebody is feeling in a kindly mood and willing to help a guy out of a wipe. Trouble is how to balance FD out so you can get out of a tight spot, yet it won't get abused(pile on the DoTs then FD to stay off the hate list in case those don't work).

Right now its damned frustrating that the necro panic button does nothing except let you get a good long look at the mob charging you then molesting your corpse.

Well It had to have been a guard since i was too far away from the healer in newport for the clerics to start in on me. I wish I'd saved a transcript but I distinctly recall seeing a guard go into its standard 'stand down' bit before getting attacked by something that actually did damage.

if your pet was up and attacked the pally back in response to the attack the guard will most certainly assist the pally unfortunately. thankfully my sk found a different route threw Newport to avoid this.

I didn't have my pet up because it was right after getting killed(and thus couldn't cast magic because of the post-death mana clamp spell that takes awhile to fade). I'd headed that way to clear debt(later experiments showed that I'm KoS to the healer).

I actually think I remember seeing a whole bunch of corpses from a shaman in newport near the pally guild there, and once saw what Darian describes happen to her. I may be wrong - it didn't happen to me personally so I didn't see the whole thing go down - but is everyone sure the guards don't help out sometimes?

This may have happened before the paladin initiate changes were put in affecting the roaming pally's, but my Iksar shaman was in south newport looking for an unprotected newport citizen to abduct when she ran across one of those massively overconfident greenie initiates. No big deal, i think, he can't do much to her.

Wrong.

All of the nearby newport guardsmen immediately started shouting at her to stand down and started beating on poor Cluzith. Oh well, she has gate memmed, they con blue, no biggie. Plus, as a bonus, she somehow got Rotting Plague from one of the guards, yummy! Made another Erimal quest easy for me, hehe.

And to clarify, Cluzith was only dubious with Newport guardsmen, yet they were on her like stink on poo as soon as the pally aggroed......and she had not swung back. Previously, my Sk had been able to whack initiates with impunity right in front of guards.

Zubum

Initiating the fight in front of the guards I could see aggroing them since, well, thats waht the guards are supposed to do right(stop people from beating up on the locals)? Its these situations where we're the ones getting beat up on AND getting guard aggro that's feeling a bit unfair.

I would say out of the 10000 or so times I've killed the paladin initiate, that I have never, ever, once been attacked by a guard or anything else, even when I had my pet kill the initiate.

Removing it, however, would be pointless since it does add a little flavor to the area and it literally does no damage to a necro with any kind of gear and takes less than the blink of an eye to kill.
