Rain Spells

Rain spells after the patch only get their first burst of dmg, the next two bursts do not hit. Message comes up stating there is an active rain spell in the area.

I can confirm this. Even with only one person casting a rain spell, only the initial wave causes dmg.

Just out of curiousity. For the new rain changes, does this mean only one rain can be active in the area regardless of who cast it? Or does it just restrict each person to one rain at a time?

One rain in the area.

I can understand why they'd want to limit rain spells to one per person, but one per area seems a bit over the top. For my mage, my main source of dps (especially on raids) was to double up two rain spells and then chain cast. Removing my ability to cast two is a hindrance. Limiting an entire raid to one rain is  . If rains were that overpowered, looking into the individual spells might have been a better idea than this.

How were rains even overpowered before? They're nukes with damage split into 3 waves on a maximum of two targets, requiring the targets to stay in the area for all 3 waves. If a group has 2 or 3 wizards or mages, a tank good enough to hold aggro, and a healer good enough to keep the tank alive on those multipulls, what's wrong with letting them reap the benefits of coordination and a specialized group makeup?

And as previously mentioned, this fucks over raid dps for mages.

yea, it really does fuck mage dps. i could post dps parses but i think by the amount of people that have voiced their concern on why this is a bad thing i don't think i need to.

A dick comment, but I expect no less from Zhak.

I'm not arguing that rains are overpowered, just saying that the solution was a little heavy handed.

It's like saying Rangers and bows are over powered, so let's only allow one ranger to use ranged attacks at a time. Sure, they can do great dps without it; but try telling that to all the pissed off rangers.

Seeing as how I'm the only mage in this thread that's actually said anything, and you're usual responses to threads in general, you can see how I got the wrong impression.

KAS

Rains already have a reduced chance to crit; about 10% lower for me with max crit AAs vs standard single target DDs. See this thread for details.

Also, I frequently group with Wizards on my mage, and that takes out a nice little chunk of DPS when only one of us could be casting a rain. What about letting one rain per class go on at the same time?

It would seem logical to me to just make it one rain per PC at a time....not that I am a fan of that but it would be better then it is now.
I am sure they thought of this though and must have decided against it for some reason.

Behave. Both you and Zhak.

Making all rains use the same timer would fix this so one person could only use one rain at a time, but 3 people could use 3 rains.

There is a challenge to using rains, especially casting more than one at a time. The tank(s) need to maintain agro, then the caster has to be able to deal with the mobs when they decide 2 rains (sometimes just one) is too much and run at you all pissed off.

Personally, this new change makes me cry, but I won't argue against it an more than this, since I don't understand the reasoning behind it.

That pretty much sums up how I feel. I've backspaced a few different posts I've attempted to write. I just have no constructive suggstions to otherwise deal with the high damage low aggro spell lines. :(
