Question on Equipment

Quick question: I am new to the server (level 10). Would it be worthwhile for me to buy newbie equipment (either from players / vendors) or just save my plat cause I'll eventually gear up from drops / etc?

I played EQ in the pre-Kunark days and the low levels were much different then. My main concerns are:

I want a better weapon on my warrior (I have boxed cleric), and mithril seems like the way to go, but being new I don't really have loose plat to spend. Is it worth the cost, or should I just save my money?

Honestly, a mithril weapon will last a long time (till almost the 50's) my recommendation would be to buy some mithril weapons, and not buy anything else really. do quests for other gear. Sell all your tradeskill materials and save the cash to buy things later (charms, deepmetal, etc)

Thanks... I've been shopping for a mithril weapon the last couple days (now that I have a little bit of money) and am finding that I can't quite afford one yet. I saw someone selling mithril short swords for 25pp each a few days ago, but didn't have the money at the time. Now I can't find any under 40. Small numbers for those who've been here for a while, I know, but for me its double what I have! ; p

Farming bone chips will get you the money. Bone chips are selling 5PP and up per stack.

Honestly for 25 PP, the person must have been skilling up and dumping his product.

edit: I am biased as one of those who sell it for 40PP each. I am not trying to deceive anyone here.

Due to people not farming their own materials/mining their own ore, smithed products have gone up significantly the last year on lower end items. My guess is the 25pp person actually mined their own ore.

I spam the hell out of the auction channel but I don't get many offers to sell me ore. But those that do get some coin.

During football season I was making a lot of cash mining during games. I've sold to just about all of the major blacksmiths in game. Then the wife decided she would start smithing. Goodbye revenue stream. (But hello major alt-twinkage! lol)
