Question about the donation situation and need for funds

I just joined SoD and have been a lurker to this point. That said, I've really enjoyed the brief time I have spent here and was saddened to see Wiz's post about the state of the server and need for funds.

My question is how much do we actually need to keep it going? In other words, if 10 people signed up for silver or something would that be enough? 20, 30? I think it might help if there was some kind of a tangible goal or counter to motivate people into realizing that keeping the server up is a goal within reach. Otherwise, it becomes kind of nebulous and I suspect people are less likely to donate simply because it's hard to gauge whether they can me a real difference or not.

Just a thought anyhow. I'll be donating regardless so hopefully that will help.

Someone told me once that it's $1,500US to keep the server up and running...

That'd be...

60 Platinum accounts
150 Gold accounts
300 Silver accounts

And from what I've heard, a lot of people make one-time donations for large sums of money, but who knows if it's correct. I'm a gold donator, a poor college student, and I can afford $10 a month.

I estimate it's probably around the 500 USD a month range. Hopefully it isn't any higher, it would be horrible to see SoD go down. :(

the problem with announcing how much they need or setting a goal like you suggest is that once that goal is met, people would be much more reluctant to start a new donation or donate more

the "threat" of it closing up, or rather the fact that there is a chance it may shut down because of lacking funds should be motivation enough for people to make donations on a regular basis

I should point out that, from what I can tell, this is rather more serious and immediate than other donation drives have been. This isn't "hey the road is out somewhere ahead", this is "hey those headlights are in my lane".

I've seen lots of posts reminding us of the need to help support the server. Many of you have seem them already as well. I think the stronger language used here should be a sufficient indication that we're in trouble here.

It's really as simple as put out the 5, 10, or 25 dollars a month if you wanna keep playing. Sure it's a free server but if you're still around and still enjoying it - find this small amount in your monthy entertainment budget. really - everyone has $5 a month if they have this game and a working internet connection that they can find somewhere...

instead of thinking someone else who probably has more money then you will take care of it this time... the same as last time, and the time before... Just make the donation please.

Is there a way to donate via money order or does paypal or the other thing accept MO to put money into your PP account? I dont have a credit card or checking account therefore I was a gamecard player.

From experience, I found out that we had to do donation drives a lot more when we showed how much money we were taking in, because there was never any kind of surplus to fall back on when donations dropped.

That's why we have the colored lights - they show you the donation situation without being too specific.

Both moneybookers and paypal can be used with just a bank account, no need for a credit card.

He doesn't have a checking account either.

I'm not sure if this would work, but you could possibly just go buy a Visa check card from like bestbuy and use that through paypal.

I know this is probably somewhere, but could someone link ther info on how to donate, and the gold/silver/plat tiers?

The the Company game is only $8.33 a month if you pay for 2 years worth ahead of time. Most people playing this are here because they can't afford the real game or justify its cost.

edit; parts of my post were edited by this message board, not me.

Agree with Latten.

I have tried both and this has a better lore, better balanced and funnier zones / quests.

Plus you don't have to pony up 30 bucks every 6 months or else be left alone in huge chunks of deserted lands.
