Question about 2-boxing...

Greetings,

I have been reading the forums and wiki and I noticed that in-game there are a lot of people that 2 box. With free accounts and such I can see why. Originally I came back to SoD as a truly enriching experience (grouping with people, etc) and it's been great.

I usually spend my time with a close friend of mine, and the two of us duo. Recently we started discussing the idea of 2-boxing (something i used to do in the past) and I just had a few questions before I got started...

1. I assume since I see it so often, that 2-boxing is totally legal, on separate accounts, correct?
2. Do I just use the same email address I used to create a new account?
3. What program do people use? EQW? Or just two copies of EQ?
4. There's no rule about sending/gearing/interacting with your boxed toon with your main, correct? (So like, I could help buff him, group with him, etc?)

I know some of these might be really basic questions, I just want to make sure I am 100% within the policies and rules before I move forward with this.

Thanks again. :)

1 - yes
2 - yes
3 - as you prefer, both are used
4 - go nuts. just remember to keep it to 2 and only 2. logging in a third to buff your two for "just a minute" is bannable, and is enforced.

Thanks!

Ikaa,

Thanks for your response! :)

Yeah I don't need 3. In fact, I'm not even sure I am 100% open to the idea of "boxing" to begin with. It's more so I can get my friend some Clarity or maybe toss an invis or something here and there.

We run a necro/druid combo, and a lot of times it's just the two of us...and while we openly welcome anyone that wants to group with us, it might not hurt having a 3rd (we're thinking enchanter) to give buffs/slow/debuff, etc.

Thanks again for the responses, I think I will register the new account now. :)

In reference, you can actually 2-box while your friend plays, even if you are all on the same IP address. You just can't have more than two actively playing toons per RL human being. The GM's can tell if you're 3-or-more-boxing. And as previously stated, such actions are considered bannable.

So get your chanter buffs on, and then go ahead and drag that buff bot with you and grind some xp!

If you're both capable of it, you might even want to add a tank class to that mix. While your duo can handle lots of low to mid level content, and most outdoor stuff, adding a tank will allow you to also delve into many dungeons you couldn't otherwise handle as you progress in levels. Tank/Druid/Necro/Ench is an insta-group, and a mighty powerful combo.

if your machines are able to run 2 EQW without lag, i HIGHLY recommend that you both roll boxes asap. ports, buffs and having extra toons to bring with you to xp are awesome advantages. also you get acquainted with more classes and its easier to understand difficulties other players might experience. and boxing is FUN it gives you TWICE the amount of buttons to push :)

I also find that people who dont box will come up to you (duel boxe's) and ask to group with you and before you know it you have a full group, as to sitting lfg or trying to solo something you shouldn't be trying alone

YES , add a tank. My personal fav is the paladin, but whatever class you like is perfect. Tanks are a must have imo. But a paladin gives you not only fighting ability, but back-up healing as well. Which helps relieve the stress on the healers and also helps them conserve mana for more than just healing. Paladins also come with their own buffs (hp and ac mostly).

Also, if you are going to 2 box, to help reduce or eliminate lag, go into your options on each box and go to filters, and turn off any chat channels you are not using. Also in display, reduce the particle effects to low and turn off the sky. Reduce far clip plane to about 80% or so. Less work o the graphics card and processor means faster and more responsive game play.

Also /viewport can help too if you size your actual viewing screen up to where your chatboxes and other boxes are can help a lot. And dont use transparncy windows just causes more laggness

couple more things, only run sound on 1 of them and having them in separate folders can help also
