Quest completions on Raid encounters

I had the displeasure of wasting 2 weeks waiting to kill an adept locked at 52, only to die in the fight and never get credit though our raid successfully downed the target. The quest was the froglok ring of vengeance line ending at Ragarati. I just wanted to point out how horrible the 'credit upon death' flagging mechanic is in a raid situation. Its just begging to alienate players. Though this mechanic works really well for solo and group content, its a horrible alternative for lootable quest items on boss mobs with long spawn timers that require a raid force.

As fun as sitting at 52 for another ? weeks sounds hoping enough level 52s appear on our low pop server, I'm going to have to scrap the entire quest... which pretty much discouraged me from playing entirely.

Just throwin' it out there, you probably want to change the way that works.

Sorry to hear you didn't get the ring, Zaos. :( If it's any consolation, at least Melwin's Idol of Joy, Visage of the Frilakh Master, and Bracelet of the Overfiend are all still accessible for you in the future.

Perhaps a page could be taken from Zaela's bounty system. I've died before on one box and finished the bounty kill on the second character, but most of the time even the dead character will receive the completion flag simply for having participated in the fight. For whatever reason, the green text only appears on the box that is present upon the mob's death, but the other character still would get credit when I'd hail the bounty officer. However, this didn't always seem to work (perhaps due to lag, still zoning during the kill, server hiccup, etc.).

If something like the above were applied to Ragarati, would that go against the intent of the staff member(s) who created the quest? If not, it might be worth considering. If a more "flavorful" approach were desired, the slain player could perhaps be required to return to Ragarati's tower once again to get some kind of flag/emote along these lines:

Memories of a distant, bloody battle flood your mind as you behold the tower. Your comrades avenged you here once upon a time. The ring upon your finger vibrates softly as a voice whispers in your ear from beyond the grave: "Come to the bog, mortal. Come quickly..."

The ring is the second highest bane item in the game (the highest is from a level 15 adept....)

Since staff abandoned the bane system it will probably remain how it is, making the ring irreplaceable. Don't level past it, just take a break or something.

As of a month ago when I did this quest, Ragarati still drops his eye: see http://wiki.shardsofdalaya.com/index.php/Ragarati's_Eye. My understanding (when I asked) was that this item was a holdover from the original implementation of the quest? Seeing as how it still drops could it be used as an alternative to the kill flag for people who die during the fight? I.e. turn in the eye and ring to the ghost and you get the final ring?

Alternative idea: when you kill Ragarti, his ghost spawns. And you can then hail it, get some lore from his perspective, and the final flag. The difficulty(?) with this would be to make it so someone not involved in the fight, or past lvl 52 couldn't exploit the ghost to get the flag.
