PvP

I was thinking, there was this one time on live when you could log on a PvP server and become a random monster and run around and kill stuff as a gnoll pup or a snake. I've also read a bunch of posts of people saying they'd like to see a lot more PvP or they'd like a PvP server or this or that about PvP. Some of the suggestions i saw there were maybe a weekend PvP would keep the server from going PvP crazy. Also a char that you cant save (a gnoll pup) would also keep people from camping the newbs as you would have to start over again if you got PL. It could also be in a certain few zones and entering them you could get a warning that this zone is currently hosting player mobs like you get when you enter an arena. I'm just kinda brainstorming here. If there is any thought of doing something like this here are some more idea.

It was so cool that everyone and their mother from the blue servers decided to flood the pvp servers I was part of. It was a nightmare.

It was pretty fun, but all the times I was a monster, I was killing and being killed by other monsters.

As an alternative, I would enjoy something similar which logged you into some zone isolated from the normal game and either A; made you a random monster, or B; made you a randomized race/class at a standardized level with comparable gear to combat others.

i'm going to hold my breath until the day SoD has a PVP enabled server, or a place where us fanatics can go to wreak havon on one another (aside from the arenas) :tinfoil:

I think GM sponsored PvP tournaments would be awesome, but its gotta be monitored for uber-twinks and ultra-raiders to be fighting each other and not against the lvl 9 pally who just started.

how about a discord zone? the discord server which was up for ohh 1 month or so, pvp no lvl restrictions if you die you go back to lvl 1 no gear. Use one of the lands of magic zones outdoor with a lot of different lvl mobs, so you can level up. discord was the ultimate pvp if you die you start from scratch was the best pvp live put out imo.

That would be fun if someone had no life and could just level and PVP all the time. For me, if I were to die, I'd be okay with them looting two items off my body and maybe losing some experience, but no way losing ALL my equipment and back to level 1.

People who are suggesting things keep going bigger and bigger when you need to think of ways that have the least amount of coding and GM work. They are pretty busy as it is. Ask thinkmeats about how items are going!

Yeah, MPC was awesome, I liked pulling peoples pets away from them into a bunch of skeletons in Nektulos, who would protect me from the pet and kill it, then run across the whole zone and kill the guy who made the pet.

I really like the sound of having a arena zone whre you play as either a MPC/PC against another group...would be interesting to see it work. Even just a zone where PVP is enabled, possibly do a WoW based reward system, fac+items you get off pc corpses will get you cool toys

I don't really care about the toys, I just want to PVP :)

For those of you that weren't around on live, I found some old screens

I have no idea how possible the monster thing is, but I've been playing with the idea of (possibly, maybe, sometime in the future) trying to put together something pvp-ish with the unused Plane of War zone (or possibly some other zone--seriously, my plans have been vague at best, and I've never ran them past wiz or anything).

PoWar itself is a bigass mostly-outdoors zone, and I was hoping to implement some sort of guild-v-guild thing where you could tussle over parts of the zone (no numeric restrictions, so littler guilds could band together to stand a chance vs the better-geared guys), and possibly individual player-owned spots, but I have no idea what rewards I could put in. The concept was that you would "control" an area that would be "vulnerable" at a publically-known regular interval, so you could show up to defend it (and other players could show up to take it away), accomplished via repop/depop timers and $global = $guildid variables, with rewards based on how many different areas a guild controlled--perhaps long-lasting buffs, or no-rent clickers, or something.

Again, I haven't spoken with wiz about this (he's been extremely busy), I'm mostly just outlining what few notes I do have to let you guys know that we haven't completely forgotten about pvp :)

I would really just like to restate that a global guildwar function would solve a lot of pvp fervor.

Simple duel command between officers which can be initiated and severed at any time. Multiple opposition

A zone dedicated to pvp removes spontaneity which is a great deal of the fun derived from pvp. A zone is also restricted to only 1 instance of pvp between large groups of people, meaning it will be dominated by the 65 (and mostly 65+) group of players

Correct. However, a pvp zone is simple to make (add zone, code zone, make zone pvp), and wouldnt take too long since the sluggish parts of zone design are itemization and mob creation/placement.

Coding a guildwar function, on the other hand.... you see the problem.

edit: Note that in the hypothetical pvp zone, all these different areas (there'd be a lot of them--possibly 100+) would be timed such that there would always be at least one vulnerable one, whether from one guild or another, or one person or another; additionally, it's basically guaranteed that one of the earliest rewards would be a gate neck. Claiming an area when you're the only one in the zone would be relatively easy, but if someone else is in the zone, you'd have to fend them off during the process (maybe using some CoD-like click spells on npcs at certain intervals?). However, I honestly don't know shit about pvp, so if you guys want to spitball suggestions that are stuff i can actually do (ie limited to a pvp zone), I'd be happy to listen. Just understand that none of this is official, a ways into the future, no etas, etc etc.

Yeah..that actually sounds fun. What does Wiz have to say about it?

I've been toying with the idea of letting players flag themselves for PVP based on the three big factions (COI, blackscale, silver crown) and those who do get boosted augments or something similar.
