Schadenfreude is getting joy from other's pain, and is German.

Sadism: same thing, and it's english. :rock:

Sadism is primarily concerned with sexual pleasure from directly causing pain to others. Schadenfreude is a more general term in that it means to derive pleasure from the pain of others, regardless of who caused it. There is no equivalent English word that I know of.
