Problems with running on 2000

My friend is trying to get WR working on his computer, but when he starts patching, he gets an error when patching the eqgame file, and cant go any further. Has anyone else who is running on Windows 2000 had this problem, and does anyone know how to fix it? Thx.
 
More info would be helpful.

For example:

"when my friend clicks on the PatchWR icon he gets a pop up that looks like this

Error: 1409 cannot connect to patch server..." Etc. etc..

or something

Patcher has some problems, that most likely won't be fixed, because Linmiyu doesn't check in very often. If you DO have problems, then you can use the patch files which you can find at www.wintersroar.com under downloads.
