Problems on my laptop

Just bought a laptop and hooked up my router. When I log on my laptop its like everything is in slow motion. When I run around it looks exactly like Im snared. Its a new HP with an ati radeon card in it. Sometimes the apparent lag stops and I can run and do everything at normal speed but otherwise Im in slow-mo. I turned all special graphics and settings off and down to no avail and I just cant believe its the computer or video card itself when I could run live on my ancient computer with little problems. Maybe a data transfer rate with my modem or something. Anyone have this problem who can help?

Please give us the specifications of your laptop. CPU, memory, and actual graphics card in it.

Laptops typically use a speedstep technology. If you are using EQPlayNice ... stop using it, because it doesn't take into account the Speedstep technology. Your other option is to turn OFF Speedstep, and/or power management settings, and then use EQPlayNice.

Change your Display Properties, Screen Saver, Power setting, from Portable/Laptop to Home/Office.

Xardon, your help is very much appreciated. Saved me a lot of trouble.

I just wondered though... how does one turn off this speed step. Currently I just shut off eqplaynice but if i was to want to DC it would be wise to figure out how to use eqplaynice. I have little experience with laptops.

Speedstep can be turned off in the Bios of the laptop. Speedstep changes the speed at which the CPU runs to conserver battery life and to reduce heat, when you turn it off, your laptop will always run at whatever your max CPU speed is.

You can also download Speedswitch XP which is a freeware windows program, that lets you set whether your in low CPU for battery, or for optimal performance.
