Problem with"Voice of the Centaur" Quest

I finally turned in enough manes to get to ally status, and I can't get Helleron to give me the bow. When I give him Ulidraks mane he returns it to me. When I hail him he gives me the talk about "trouble with strangers". I have done that part of the quest already. I believe he should be giving me the talk involving his son. He won't respond to anything I say to him, even correct responses to the script he starts.

I may have messed it up by trying to give him the mane before I was ally faction. Is it possible to get the quest reset for me without losing my ally faction?
