Post 60 Shaman Heal Upgrade

Podge

Dalayan Beginner
Well, in the torpor rant post, Melwin mentioned that there was an upgrade to Close Wounds (1250, 350mana, 5sec), so I was notably excited today to get the spell in Mielech's (the spell, by the way, dropped as 'Song: Mend Wounds', but scribed as 'Spell: Mend Wounds'). Unfortuantely, the spell itself isn't that much of an upgrade at all. It is a 1400hp heal (150 more hp), for 345 mana (5 [five] less mana). This is an upgrade, true, but by no means does this increase shamans ability to heal in most situations. 150hp is nothing to a tank, and nothing to mobs anymore either, and the 5 mana only adds up after about 60 casts. It takes the same amount of time to cast also, so no advantage there.

I would suggest either lowering the cast time (to be more in line with chloroblast - 3 sec), or upping the actual heal part of the spell, even if that means upping the mana as well. I would much rather have a 700 mana, 3k heal, than a 350 mana, 1400 heal, just because that means we can heal more hp on a tank in the same amount of time, thus helping with keeping up with mobs.

I realize there are a lot of issues with healing balance and what not, but as it stands right now, this is not a new spell for Shamans, it is a practical clone of CW, and it does not contribute to the effectivness of our healing arsenal in any quantitative amount. Thanks for listening.

You're no druid, nor a cleric. If I gave Shamans heals on par with druids, why would anyone ever take a druid for a group?

The scroll being called Song: Mend Wounds is my fault. Being a bard has conditioned me to put song too much. :D That'll be fixed no problem.

I would assume an upgrade to the heal itself would be an upgrade for shamans and druids alike, thus increasing both classes desireability...

Shamans have slow, which is a great addition to groups as it is. I think druids get the better heals because shamans get slow. Since druids can't really nuke and heal together efficiently, at least at high rates.

Plus, shamans get the most efficient downtime healing, torpor :)

1400hp heal is a big upgrade from a 1250hp heal, atleast I think so, even in end game.
And a crit heal would be 2800hp instead of 2500hp...
Shamans aren't there for healing (most of the time) but to slow and cast dots. but still, a 1400hp heal is a great padding heal when it's needed.

That is coming from a person that plays a cleric, so of course you never have to experience a group when no cleric is available :p Anyways, this issue has been resolved, I think details will be announced later.

Well, I want to echo what gadget just said. A cleric telling people that shamans arent in groups for healing is silly on this server. Its a lowpop server and outside of GOTW or healbots, clerics practically dont exist. 99% of my leveling has been done with a shaman as main healer.

I happen to like this heal, and hope it isnt taken away. Shamans really need at least a minor upgrade to their big heal, and this at least gives them that. They also need a upgrade to their quickcasting heal. Then they would be set.

Lets face the facts here. Its hard as hell to find groups on this server. Unless you have a healbot, you cant count on having clerics in groups. Shamans and Druids should both be getting upgrades so they can fulfill group healing duties when you cant find a cleric. Look, because of CH, clerics will ALWAYS be the best primary healers. You shouldnt be scared of giving druids and shamans extra healing and eliminating clerics. The reason no one plays cleric is because they can only heal and its not glamorous. Its not because they arent being invited to groups because everone wants shamans and druids heh.

I agree with Khalid on this one, pretty much everything he said, hits the nail on the head from my perspective, it's a slight, but decent "big heal" upgrade, it helps to fill in the holes as mobs hit harder. 150hp may not seem like much, but with healing increment, and aa's, it all adds up. Anyway, I much prefer mend wounds to close wounds.

Shaman is one of those classes that can be approached from several perspectives, leading to widely varied playstyles, I was one of those that wasn't bothered at all by the "torpor nerf" where many others were.
Direct heals are my bread and butter.

There is now a chloroblast upgrade attainable at level 62 for druids and shamans.
